Elavon is the discounted credit card (CC) processing service for Costco's business members. Elavon's processing fees are lower than most CC processing services. Elavon's virtual merchant has a $149 setup fee and $5 monthly fees compared to authorize.net's $99 setup fee and $20 monthly fee. Elavon's $50 higher setup fee would be made up after a little over 3 months by their much cheaper monthly fee! Any chance of adding Elavon's Virtual Merchant as another gateway option for payments?

I just joined Bookerville and also have Elavon and would like to see a gateway added.
John Amato, February 4, 2014:

I have been informed that Elavon's current gateway is being deprecated by the end of 2014, presumably to be replaced by a new one. If true, this means at best we won't be considering an integration with them until their new platform is established and out of beta. Can anyone confirm this for us?

Also please keep in mind that you should never go directly to Authorize.net to get an Authorize.net gateway. I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but it's true: you can get much better deals by obtaining an Authorize.net gateway from a merchant account provider. Bookerville strongly recommends PayPros. So far, everyone we know of who has gone with PayPros has reported that they are very happy with them, and that means a lot to us as we give a lot of weight to actual feedback from customer experience. I believe there is only a $10 monthly fee, no setup fees, and more importantly, significantly lower transaction costs.

PayPros can provide you with an Authorize.net gateway that will instantly integrate with your Bookerville account. We are also planning to integrate with their native gateway, which will further reduce your costs and also provide more interesting integration options.

Thinks John, I filled out the contact form for PayPros.

Any other experiences with PayPros, good or bad?
I had a bad experience with PayPal and a chargeback. I eventually won but PayPal refused to communicate with the renter's credit card company to find out why a chargeback was filed and gave me absolutely no advice on how to defend myself. It felt like they abandoned me. Fortunately, after an 80 day wait, I won but now would like to only use PayPal for refundable security deposits.

Can't say I blame you after such an experience. The reports are kind of all over the map. Some people love PayPal (so much so that they will not switch to a merchant account, even though it means saving them over $1,000 a year in fees). Others can't stand them.

Merchant accounts seem to be the same way: typically, all it takes is one bad experience to sour our opinions about them, and various managers have hot & cold feelings about various payment processors.

All in all, we continue to hear very positive things about PayPros. They seem to care a lot more about their customers than any other processor we've discussed with various people over the years. That's not to say that you'll win every arbitration with them (much of it is out of their control, and is really the call of Visa/MC/Disc/Amex, or the issuing bank of the card), but the team over at PayPros will tell you everything they know to help your case (and future cases). Their explanations are educational and in this business, that can go a long way to reducing issues.

I have a lot of foreign guests, I checked into PayPros and they will only take US funds. Are there any out there that will take other currencies?
Niseko Boutiques, October 3, 2014:

Good question...Flipkey has recently changed their policy to not use JPY which is really frustrating with the currency fluctuations. I wish other financial providers would just keep it simple and offer all major currencies and convert where necessary. I have to take 100% now at the time of booking so that one of myself or the customer doesn't end up on the wrong side of the ledger with the currency fluctuations.
John Amato, October 5, 2014:

Yes, unfortunately PayPros cannot facilitate non-U.S. accounts. We have been looking for a "universal" solution for world-wide businesses, but so far have found none.

I'd even be happy if we could find universal solutions for regions (i.e. Europe, East Asia, South America, etc.) At least then we'd be able to develop integrations with only a handful of gateways/banks to cover everyone (or almost everyone). Right now, there just does not appear to be a dominant "Authorize.net" kind of solution that can handle most customers in a non-U.S. region. We've had numerous non-U.S. customers approach us, but they want us to develop a $20k integration with their favorite local bank down the street from them. We'd have to do that for almost every customer - the economics just don't work.

If anyone knows of a bank or payment gateway or something like that, which is able to serve as the solution for large numbers of businesses, in various regions, please do let us know. We are eager to make this happen if it can be done.

In the meantime, the only truly global payment processing solution we are aware of is PayPal.

John
