Great basement with pool, video games, checkers, and the hot tub was perfect. I had a wonderful two day stay with my daughter and grandchildren. Would highly recommend the “ farmers’ helper” program they have.

From the beautiful back yard and mountain views to the amazing hot tub under the cover of a beautiful porch with plenty of room to enjoy your entire family. The inside was beautiful and immaculate. Great get away Posted: Mar 9, 2024 Cabin is idea for a couple; quiet with nice vistas. Cabin provides all the amenities necessary, with added items not found in most cabins; particularly enjoyed the sauna and massage table. Dining, if you like going out to eat, is about 15-20 drive. A little less for breakfast; about 10-15 min but, cabin has all the cooking utensils if you prefer to dine in. Supermarket is also just 15-20 minutes away. Cabin is well maintained and Cheryl and Jeff are quick to respond if something does go wrong. Cherokee is 45 min down the road, offering a casino any many shops. If you go after May, don’t forget to visit the “Unto these hills” Outdoor drama and Native American museum. Also, if you’re into hiking and waterfalls, there’s plenty to do.

The cabin was absolutely gorgeous with everything I needed and the front porch was perfect for a spot to wind down and forget reality for a while. The view was breathtaking. Everything was perfect! Clean, unique, beautiful. Awesome view of the bison. Quiet. Loved the deck attached to the caboose to eat outside. The staff was excellent. Told my friends all about it. And now they want to go. Will be back. Loved, loved 🥰 that they are pet friendly. I hope that all pet owners appreciate how special this place is & appreciate that they allow pets. I hope that they clean up after their furry friends, so that it doesn’t ruin for everyone else :)

Wonderful getaway with kids! Posted: Feb 24, 2024 We booked a long weekend in the orange caboose with our two kids and had the absolute best time! Our 4 year old loved being a farm hand helper with Jesse - thought it was the best thing and has told all her friends! From seeing the bison out of our caboose window to visiting all the animals numerous times a day to exploring the mountain side on the playground, it was all excellent. Clean facility, easy communication with owners, many things to entertain kids, and overall a great way to escape from our busy lives. Cheryl was a great host!

The folks running the property were extremely helpful in addressing questions prior to our arrival and immediately responsive to questions during the stay. The stay was excellent. The wildlife on site was amazing! Location was perfect. 30 minutes from cataloochee ski resort (which was great skiing) and close to a variety of restaurants.

Christmas at the Cabin Posted: Jan 27, 2024 This was a long awaited trip to the mountains for Christmas and it was amazing. The cabin was decorated giving us the immediate Christmasy feel as we came in. There was enough room for everyone to be comfortable. The donkeys, goats, and sheep were such an awesome bonus to the stay also. I still miss the sound of the donkey's when we would come outside or back from being gone for the day. Cheryl & Dennis were so helpful and ALWAYS so pleasant, no matter the time of day. Hands down this was one of the best decisions I've made! If you're wondering if you should do it, you should!!!

Just what we needed Posted: Jan 13, 2024 From booking to our departure everything was excellent. Cheryl is super friendly and helpful. She and Joshua came to our cabin for game nights and we had a fun time (all 12 of us, ages 10 to 71). The area is not crowded with so much to discover. The ranch itself offers unprecedented experiences with animals on site. We will return as we feel there is so much more to explore....we absolutely loved it! The view from the cabin was breath taking, cabin itself is spacious, well stocked, comfortable....internet was not always reliable but mobile hotspot with fire stick took care of it therefore great vacation all around!

Crazy for this Caboose! Posted: Sep 20, 2023 You wouldn't think 3 kids and 2 adults (who go to bed at different times) could make this caboose work for a family vacation, but you'd be wrong! With a pack n play in the cool back bedroom for the baby, and putting the 3-year-old and 5-year-old in the loft, we accomplished a super fun way to sleep! The kids loved watching the sun set and buffalo roam from their "room." The kitchen had a full stove, fridge, freezer, and plenty of dining space on the deck to accommodate all of our meals. The kids had a great time staring at the buffalo from the front of the caboose, balancing on the railroad ties along the path, playing with toys (whenever we wanted) in the depot play room, and watching the buffalo eat breakfast in the morning. It was a wonderful bonding experience. We felt very comfortable there -- like an extension of Cheryl's awesome family. I highly recommend this special place.

Just be aware that the only food supplies are salt and pepper...not a big deal, just something to be aware of as some other places weve stayed have had basics like coffe and coooking oil! The owners are super sweet and helpful. Would go back!

We even tried the bison burger…delicious. Would definitely recommend staying at the red dog barn. We have plans to come back!

Fun place to stay! Posted: Jul 19, 2023 We stayed in the orange caboose this past July. It was comfortable and enabled us to also cook family meals. It had everything you needed for a week in the country! Our granddaughters loved it! There was a fun sleeper with windows to watch the bison! We loved all of the animals, and s’mores by the fire pit was a nightly happening. The staff was wonderful, all very friendly and knowledgeable. We definitely enjoyed our week in NC.

Exceeded our expectations ! Posted: Jul 12, 2023 What amazing place to stay that truly has it all! The host, Cheryl, is incredibly responsive. The property is a bison ranch owned by the host and her family. There are about 6 places to lodge on the property including cabins and 2 cabooses that can be rented. Every detail is well thought out and out of the many places I’ve traveled, this is my favorite lodging. The cabin is beautiful and just like the pictures… very romantic and relaxing. There is a sweet cat, Cali, that hangs out on the back porch. There is a petting zoo very nearby on the property and you can also observe the bison being fed each morning at the observation deck. The family has truly thought of everything to make this place very special. We felt very much at home and we didn’t want to leave. The price to lodge was a little high IMO, but once we stayed there, we really thought it was a great value for the entire experience we had. Nearby is whitewater rafting and horseback riding. Everything we did took about an hour

Constant rain and threat of rain caused us to stay in the cabin from mid-afternoon Tuesday until Friday morning as we left. We and the cabin had everything we needed. It was a great way to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary! We had LOTS of time to simply enjoy one another. Great place to do just that.

Wonderful Experience Posted: May 4, 2023 We have stayed in many different cabins over the years but our experience at this property was the best of all! We stayed at Bison Lodge and our backyard was full of farm animals that we just fell in love with. The mini horses and baby goats were our favorites and we loved being able to feed them, hold the baby goats, and ride the mini horses. The back porch has a gorgeous view of the mountains and we loved just watching the bison roam and graze. We enjoyed just exploring the property and taking in the views. The playground was so much for the kids. They loved the pool table, air hockey, and foosball table inside our cabin, too! The cabin was very clean and as Floridians we appreciated that the drive up to the cabin wasn't scary! The road to the cabin is paved and it's easy to get in and out of the parking area. We would love to visit here again!

An Experience To Remember Posted: Apr 20, 2023 We booked the orange caboose due to my son loving trains. This place did not disappoint. The caboose was turned into living space. The kids loved the loft. The HUGE train exhibit was impressive. Kids loved playing in the playground in the woods and seeing all of the animals. Topped off the trip by going trout fishing nearby. Definitely one of the coolest experiences.

A True Hidden Gem! Posted: Apr 11, 2023 From the moment we arrived, everything was amazing! There is a peace and deep-rooted joy at Buffalo Creek that can not be put into words! We stayed at Red Dog Barn and the view was like something from a magazine! In addition, we woke up our first morning to several bison bedded down off to both sides of the cabin! It was surreal to be so close (safely) to the majestic 🦬! Everyone was SO nice, friendly, and went out of their way to be helpful and kind! We are avid hikers but found it difficult to want to leave the property! There is incredible hiking all around the area! Beauty encompasses this incredible property! We can not wait for our return visit! Thank you for one of our favorite vacations to date!

Unique & Relaxing Posted: Apr 10, 2023 We only stayed one night while passing through, but it was a great experience. We stayed in the refurbished caboose (gray), and it was super clean, comfortable beds, and just an overall unique experience. Watching the bison, feeding the other animals, and holding the baby goats were the highlight of our stay. The depot gift store and game room were a nice addition. And...all of the staff we interacted with were so nice and helpful. We will def plan a return stay in the future.

Loved my experience Posted: Apr 7, 2023 Place was unique. Loved the caboose, and seeing the animals. Kids loved the animals, the caboose, and Agapeland train. I think the cabooses can benefit from double pane windows to regulate temperatures. It got hot in the loft area if you don’t run the fan. And it got cold at night. But we managed. Thank you to the pleasant staff members. They were all very helpful, Cheryl was very very sweet.

Beautiful views - comfortable stay! Posted: Apr 5, 2023 We had a very relaxing time at the Red Dog Barn. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 school-age kids) enjoyed the porch swing and views of the cows and buffalo. The beds were very comfortable, and the open loft cabin felt very spacious, but as the upstairs bed and bathroom were mostly open to the downstairs, sound privacy could be an issue. The kitchen was well-stocked with cookware, dishes, tools, etc. The ice maker worked great and there was both a kureg and regular coffee maker available. The buffalo walk very close to the cabin every morning on their way to breakfast. Such a fun way to start the day. We also had a great time watching the feedings and visiting all the animals on the farm. The guard dog is a good one - she barks and is a large breed, but is quite friendly once she's sure of you. Cheryl and family were very welcoming and happy to chat. Cabin was an easy drive to Asheville and Waynesville, so even though you felt secluded you were close to everything. We would love to return

Customer service was great Posted: Mar 24, 2023 We were there too early in the season for the caboose because it was too cold in there. We also stayed only one night, a Saturday. Never got to see the model train or feedings vecause they happen later in the day on Sundays. Would like to return at another time to enjoy the whole thing. Customer service was great and we wont let our poor timing affect us going back.

The cabin was absolutely amazing. The hot tub, game room & sauna were added bonuses. We loved checking out all the animals on the property. The llamas, Bisen, bunnies, ponies & goats. Before we left, we stopped at the depot & purchased a few Bisen steaks that were absolutely delish! Plenty to do right on the property. We will definitely be back again & again! Best exsperience by far!

The cabin is well equipped, the bed sleeps wonderfully, and all of the amenities keep us occupied for the duration of the stay! Great little getaway!! Posted: Jan 26, 2023 We booked the orange caboose overnight for our son’s 10th birthday. The kids loved sleeping in the lofted area. Although the overall room was a bit tight for 3 kids and w adults that’s what we were expecting. There is plenty of room outside for the kids to run around. It does get windy and cold but the caboose did a pretty good job of staying warm. We did not feel cold inside until the morning when the temps dropped into the 20’s but the space heater provided helped warm it up quickly. There was plenty of amenities and they even had a binder with information about the local attractions and food. Internet is spotty even on their wifi. The owners and the staff we very polite and accommodating. We look forward to returning in the future.

We enjoyed watching the Buffalo roam, feeding a baby goat, and exploring the property. Buffalo creek is very centrally located and we enjoyed getting out to adventure as well. Everybody was so nice, friendly, and helpful! Cheryl was very responsive with any questions we had before we even got there. We will definitely be back.

Can’t get enough of it! Posted: Jan 7, 2023 We first visited BCV in 2021. When we asked our boys where they wanted to go in December for a getaway they said “the buffalo and caboose!” We all enjoy this place, the animals, cabooses and the folks running BCV so much. So relaxing, full of great experiences and accommodating. We’re going to plan a trip in the Summer and most likely will return in December’23. Few places make us as happy as this corner of the world.

This property is easy to get to, centrally located, and yet hidden away enough so that you can enjoy the peace and tranquility that the mountains have to offer. The cabins are ALL spectacular. Clean, with ample space for everyone. The kids (young and old) truly enjoy spending time in the game room. Our all-time FAVORITE though is coming back through the years to see the animals! Cheryl, thank you and your family for offering such a wonderful "home" away from home. Bison Creek is a place I will ALWAYS recommend to anyone that is looking for a mountain getaway. Blessings!

Absolutely beautiful 😍 Posted: Dec 31, 2022 I was very happy with my stay, the decorations were beautiful especially the added Christmas decor. Rooms were spacious. I was sad we did not get to enjoy the grounds more since it was freezing but I'd definitely go back in the fall or summer. Everyone was great on check in and out no hassle at all. All around we has the best time. 5 stars 🌟 I'd definitely be going back.

Super fun and spacious place! Posted: Dec 24, 2022 Brought up the whole family for some time away. Really enjoyed the size of the property and everything around it. Huge game room with a bar, pool table and toys for the kids. Animals that you can interact with everywhere. Donkeys in the front, goats in the back, sheep on the side. Bison feeding is about a mile away and so well worth it. The staff is all very kind and informative, taking time out to share info or to bring out small animals that everyone can experience. About 35 min to the Biltmore where we spent one day and one eve. Overall, a great place to stay with so much to do! Perfect if you're traveling with a larger group and with kids.

Grey Caboose Fun Posted: Dec 5, 2022 Overall our stay at Buffalo Creek was enjoyable! They had animals that our kids were able to feed and pet, a game room that we were able to get some energy out, and a really clean and pleasant caboose to stay in! The staff is great and super helpful! My only complaint is the oversized chair in the living space was worn out and not comfortable to sit in. Also the bed was not what I consider comfortable. It was very springy and you can feel every move your partner made. We made a ton of great memories that my kids will take with them for the rest of their lives! We loved our time there and would love to stay again, perhaps in the new train cars they are building out now, expected to be completed summer 2023.

Fall Family Vacation Posted: Dec 4, 2022 An amazing place to visit, even for a family of five with kids at different ages (2, 6 & 9). There was plenty of fun things to do and you could always find time to relax and recoup while watching the bison roaming and playing. Having a full kitchen was impressive and extremely helpful for a family with food allergies that can’t just rely on local restaurants. The caboose was just as warm and inviting as the staff. We’re definitely going back soon!

Wonderful time in our caboose! Posted: Nov 22, 2022 We had a terrific time! My daughter loved the cupola, which had some stuffed animals and books that she enjoyed reading. The caboose was super comfy and beautifully decorated. We had everything we needed! Then we woke up to bison strolling across the way outside our window, which was super exciting! We fed the baby goat, walked around the property (with the turkey following us part of the way ha ha!), and watched the morning bison feeding. We cannot wait to come back in the spring for a longer stay!!!

Family Vacation Posted: Nov 17, 2022 Had a wonderful time. My daughter and her family stayed in the other caboose. The location is excellent and views of the buffalo are perfect. The staff went out of their way giving access to baby goats, alpaca, and miniature donkeys to my granddaughter. It is a short drive to town for any needed items. The caboose was very nice and comfortable. Look forward to being able to make this trip again in the future!

Great stay! Posted: Nov 9, 2022 We really enjoyed staying at the caboose which was redone on the inside with attention to detail. For example, cabinet handles were custom made from railroad spikes. The Agapeland train depot was a large O-Guage train layout which was so fun to visit. We also watched the Bison feeding and learned a lot about them.

Great Location, Poor Business Practice Posted: Nov 2, 2022 The grounds are beautiful and the caboose was so cool and wonderfully equipped. The only issue that we had was getting our security deposit back. We booked straight from the property and received an email the day after checking out saying “I will be creating your credit card your deposit this week”. Still no refund and when my husband called he was told “it can take up to two weeks”, despite the email stating differently.

The cabin was beautiful and well equipped with everything we needed. We had a great time horse back riding, looking at the animals, and enjoying the views. Already looking forward to out next trip!

Plenty to keep kids to adults entertained and we only used a small portion of activities. If you’re looking for a quiet get away from it all but still close to touristy places, then this is it. Perfect Getaway! Posted: Oct 3, 2022 We have stayed at Buffalo Creek Vacations 3 times now! We have loved it every time! The property itself is so relaxing with many things for the kids to do. Often, we just stay on the property for a couple of days of our vacation. Dad can relax on the back porch with a great view and the kids have lots of choices of things to do. Some of their favorites are feeding the smaller animals, watching the bison feedings, hiking to the playground and tetherball area, playing in the game room and watching the train displays. They are rarely bored!! The owners are wonderful people who are welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back again!

Cute caboose stay Posted: Oct 1, 2022 This is a great idea, of turning train cars into vacation rentals. My kids were so excited. The exterior paint job and remodel were fantastic. What really detracted was the lack of attention to detail on the cleanliness. The sofa chair was very dirty-obviously from animals using it. Same for the rugs. They needed to be thrown out. The bathroom shower needed some attention well. It was filled with mildew inside and out and did not drain well. Finally our sheets had not been changed, as they were covered in animal hair. We were kindly brought new sheets. This could really be a 5 star accommodation if it were deep cleaned and then maintained in good order.

Awesome bison ranch Posted: Sep 23, 2022 We loved our stay at Buffalo Creek. Such a cool place, unlike any we've ever stayed at. Our child thought it was very cool to sleep in the caboose's cupola and all of the animals. They got up early just to spend time with the goats and miniture horses, then they found the big horses. The caboose was so cool, too. Amazing design and creativity. 10/10 would stay here again.

Unique Experience- Fun Memories Posted: Sep 4, 2022 Having 2 young boys (ages 5 and 9) and a husband who is into model trains, I surprised my family with a stay in the Seaboard Coast Line #0887. I just thought it would be a fun little stay for them so they could tell their friends they slept in a train. Little did I know there was so much more! The boys were able to help feed all of the animals, SO MANY ANIMALS! (alpacas, goats, mini horses, regular horses, llamas, bunnies, chickens, pigeons and even a giant Turkey named Pumpkin). The farm was so quiet, it was relaxing to just go out on the deck and sip my morning coffee. We also enjoyed visiting with the family who runs Buffalo Creek, listening to the story of how it all started and plans they have to expand. None of us wanted to leave, so I hope we are able to visit again soon and catch up with our new friends! I can't recommend this place enough! It is such a fun, unique experience you won't ever forget!

Great Stay, Especially Good for Multi-Generations Posted: Sep 2, 2022 Everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We loved the gray caboose! Cheryl was so kind and friendly…so was the rest of the staff! My granddaughter looked forward to seeing her every morn. Loved watching my granddaughter ride Red Cloud, the miniature horse. She had fun feeding the goats, watching the buffalo, and the mini donkey experience. We enjoyed walking the property and eating on the deck. Don’t forget to get some bison steaks…the ribeyes were delicious!

Our children both LOVE TRAINS and we had seen Buffalo Creek Vacations on some previous searches. Thus our change of plans was a great opportunity to book here. Cheryl and her family were so warm and welcoming. The property is beautiful- both naturally and well maintained. The Orange Caboose is lovely-- spacious and nicely decorated. Great Train Theme Weekend Posted: Aug 20, 2022 Came to North Carolina to celebrate my older brother's 65th birthday. Did the Smokey Mountain Train Ride in Bryson then came over to Clyde to sleep in cabooses for the weekend. Thanks to everyone for showing us the new cars coming in the future and especially to Harold to coming out late to open up the train room and allowing him to run the cars. The area was very quiet in the morning for coffee and listening to the birds and watching the Bison roam the hills.

There were tons of things to do onsite...such as, pet animals, feed animals, Caboose Museum, country store, watch the Buffalo be fed, the list goes on!!! Awesome Stay at Buffalo Creek Vacations Posted: Jul 25, 2022 We had a spectacular time at Buffalo Creek Vacations. We stayed at the Red Dog Barn. Everything about this place was awesome. The house was great, very clean, very comfortable, very spunky and unique, breathtaking views with bison crossing everyday. The basement has a lot of games for the kids and it is just the perfect place to spend some time with nature. One night we got to watch a storm come through and see the light show on the mountains. My son had such a great time feeding the goats and ponies, getting to see the bison up-close at the bison feeding, hiking to the BC Coral and looking out for the bison on the back porch. Denise, our host was also wonderful. He was extremely informative, helpful and just so kind and nice. We want to thank Denise for making us feel so welcomed and making our stay so great. We also want to thank Cheryl for all of her wonderful help during our booking. We cant say enough about this place. Our only complaint is that we didn't stay longer.

A lovely house Posted: Jul 12, 2022 We spent the 4th of July weekend in the Horse Shoe Cottage. It's really a lovely house. The kitchen is very clean, the bedrooms are so comfortable, and the hot tub, the game station, my little boy enjoyed them so much! We are planning to come back someday. :-)

Grill, fire pit and outside seating available. Shop with essentials, souvenirs and delicious bison meat. Highly recommended place to stay.

Would not stay here again AND dont book the photographer. Posted: Jul 6, 2022 that now that I have stayed at the Bison Escape. I agree with the bad review. This is my review of Bison Escape: I will not stay here again. I feel I was hoodwinked on the photographer that I paid extra $95.00 for. She knew nothing of modern photography no ideas for poses we had to direct her. Very old school. Also doubles as the maid. Then attempted to sell me the photos for 10 times the cost. She was charging $3.00 for a 4x6 you can print them at Walgreeens for .23 cent a piece. The washing machine area smelled horribly of mildew. Washing machine is very rusty and old. The first night we got there the AC and cable were NOT working had to get 2 repair people out to fix. The cabin is very run down. Toilet in master bath leaks, ceiling has water leaks all over it in master bedroom. Kitchen has holes in the flooring that you can almost see outside through. Some unknown hole under the microwave just a big hole in the cabinets.

Such a fun, unique stay! Posted: Jul 5, 2022 What an amazing stay my 2 teenage kids and I had here! The caboose cabin was so unique and fun to stay in! It was so clean and decorated so cute and had everything you’d need for a stay. I absolutely loved the mugs, which was a definite purchase at the depot to have at home. We loved watching the Bison make their way through each day and really enjoyed visiting and petting the goats every evening and seeing the rest of the animals. We loved how some of the goats just wandered around & I enjoyed sitting in the deck and listening to them. So cute! It made me smile each time. Everyone we encountered was always so nice too! It was such a great place to just hang out & relax, but if you do want to sight see, it is in a great location that is convenient to a bunch of different stuff! My family truly had such an amazing time and hated to have to leave. We will definitely be back!

Luxury hilltop cabin located within a bison ranch Posted: Jun 30, 2022 Gorgeous hilltop cabin set within a working bison ranch! This year our family vacation took this Florida family of 10, ranging in age from 15months to 71years old, to NC mountains. Living in Orlando, my grandkids have been to every amusement park and this vacation was a back to nature one! Tatonka Lodge was perfect. Our mornings were spent hiking down from the cabin to watch the bison being fed, visit the Llamas, goats, bunnies, ponies, and feed the goats! Pony rides and donkey feeding were hits with the kids. What a special place Buffalo Creek Vacations is! Tatonka Lodge accommodated our family perfectly. We had everything we needed to cook dinners- plenty of pots, pans, baking dishes and utensils. The playroom with pool table, air hockey, fuss-ball was so fun after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. But the best part was the hot tub at the end of the day. Soothed our sore muscles. Cheryl always got back to me if I had questions, concerns, and set up our activities on the ranch. As

Wonderful, relaxing, enjoyable, educational, Great experience !! Posted: May 22, 2022 We stayed in the horseshoe cottage that we learned originated over 100 years ago. The woodwork and architecture was a step back in time combined with the newer covered hot top area. We were able to visit the buffalo feeding one of the mornings and learned many new things about that wonderful creature. We also met many from the family that runs this fine get away in the Blue Ridge Mountains and what a blessing they were to talk too. God is good and continues to bless in many areas. Buffalo Creek vacations is nestled near Waynesville, NC which is another great place to visit for non-commercial shopping and many restaurants. We are looking to make this a regular destination from the Greenville SC area.

Very cool stay! Posted: Apr 18, 2022 The caboose was awesome, it was furnished appropriately and we fit comfortably in the caboose. I would have preferred a bit of a more thorough cleaning (when we opened the living room pull out, there were crumbs everywhere, on the floor under the chair, and in the bed). We also didn't have the appropriate linens in the caboose. Upon arrival I waited till 4pm, and then texted bc I lost the email with my code (my fault!) but it wasn't received very well, and I felt like a bit of a bother, so I didn't bother asking for additional linens since we never really saw anyone working the host area (but did see some farm workers). It was a bit run down (the playground etc) but the kids LOVED the experience, so it was a win overall. I just wish there was more of a welcoming atmosphere.

Yes, there is a fenced backyard but this is nit enough for my big rottie. Other than that ,lovely ,cozy little cabin. And as for Vrbo, this is first time we didnt find any detefhent for dishes

Spring Break 2022 Posted: Mar 30, 2022 We enjoyed our stay mainly due to the bison and the game room. The house was ok. There is no sound deadening material throughout the entire house, so I could clearly hear conversations happening in the basement on the top floor. The TV was an issue throughout our trip, which I hate to complain about because we aren't there to watch TV. However, at night, it would have been a nice wind down and we were only able to watch 1-3 channels. Additionally, watching TV from the master bed was a burden as the foot board rides right in the middle of the screen. A prop under the TV would solve that issue. The master mattress has indentions from years of use and caused sleeping issues. We tried sleeping with our heads at the foot of the bed but then we slid back down. The main floor was nice and the kitchen had everything we needed for family dinner. The kitchen table was amazing with the lazy susan. Harold was a gem and I had a lovely conversation with him where he provided me great ideas. Thanks!

Wonderful family vacation Posted: Mar 24, 2022 We loved our visit our grandchildren had so much fun. When asked what they liked best it was feeding the goats and other animals plus hiking to the playground. They loved shopping in the little store too. All your staff is so friendly and kind. Even to mailing my granddaughters treasured stuffed animal back to her after she left it. Everything was in walking distance on the property with lots of views of the bison. Everything in the cabin made our stay comfortable. The girls loved the hot tub and we had s'mores at the fire pit they thought that was so cool. The only things I think could help other guests is a four slice toaster took forever to get breakfast toast done for 9. Plenty of cookware and dinnerware. The mattress in top master bedroom may need to be replaced it sinks in center my daughter said like sleeping in a bowl. The one in lower master was very comfortable thats where we stayed. The cabin had excellent heat so we were never cold inside. One of our best vacations.

We love the resident turkey, pumpkin, and how he would go after Jacob. :-) The buffalo are so cool to watch, and the other animals were fun to visit; and the caboose itself was amazing! We decided that all one person would need would be a washer and dryer and you would have everything right there in the caboose to live! Hoping to come back sometime this summer. Loved it!

Awesome experience at Buffalo Creek Posted: Feb 5, 2022 Horse Shoe cottage was a beautiful, rustic cabin on the mountain. Every detail was attended to…each room had lots of character and “mountainy” decor, from the wood stove fireplace to the horse saddle! We enjoyed the hot tub(very clean) and made “roaring” fires in the outdoor fire pit! We even shot “clay pigeons” off the back hillside. Our highlight was watching the bison being fed. Harold was so knowledgeable and informative. A fun fact we learned, bison’s horns are made of hair! We visited Waynesville, Maggie Valley and Canton. Fun breweries and great food at all! Cheryl went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and easy(since we had to reschedule because of covid). Would highly recommend a getaway to Buffalo Creek! We even had 4 inches of snow! Thank you all!

Overpriced and cheap Posted: Feb 5, 2022 After spending $1037 for 2 nights we were asked to put trash in our car and find a recycling center in this unfamiliar town before making our 5 hour drive home. If you don't comply with this rule it's $5 a bag. The recycling center was closed the day we checked out which they told us about in the departure book. I guess they expect you to drive 5 hours with trash in your car. They also charge a $250 cleaning fee then ask you to wash and put away all dishes (or it's $5 a dish) and to start the laundry before you go. Then I bought a mug which was wrapped and carefully brought home and it was cracked when I unwrapped it. After $1037 for 2.5 days the manager told me I'd have to pay shipping for a refund for their screw up. The games were nice besides missing all the chess pieces, but the price didn't match the quality. The beds were very uncomfortable and the furniture, appliances, and decor was very outdated. A futon accounts for 2 of the heads on the "sleeps 8". Very disappointing.

Wonderful Place Posted: Jan 21, 2022 This was our annual family trip with adult children and grandchildren. Let me say 1st everyone is so helpful and friendly ther. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was very nice and plenty of room for all of us. Having 2 master bedrooms was great. Every family got their own floor!! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and more. As a OCD person i loved the kitchen shelves being labeled. Everyone enjoyed watching the buffalos coming down the hill in the mornings to be feed. They were amazing. We loved holding the baby goats. There also are more goats, llamas, alpacas, miniature horses (super cute), turkey, chickens, bunny's and doves. We spent several hours just being with the animals. Only negative thing of the stay was we had to leave a day early due to severe weather coming in on Sunday. Hoping to book again. The Lampkin's and Gibson's.

Our 10 year wedding anniversary Posted: Jan 20, 2022 We stayed at the Buffalo Bungalow and were impressed the minute we arrived. The view was beautiful and the cabin was very welcoming! The woodwork was impeccable, and it was obvious that the owners had put their heart and soul into decorating and maintaining the cabin. We loved the romantic feel and took advantage of all of the amenities. Meeting the owners (and the animals) was a pleasure too, we learned about the bison's, the family's and farm's history and how much hard work was put into creating Buffalo Creek Vacations. Highly recommended!!! 5 stars!! We'll be back!

Perfect Getaway Posted: Dec 28, 2021 We stayed at the horseshoe cottage for 5 nights. The cottage is unique and comfortable. We loved the extra perks such as the hot tub, fire pit, hot cocoa, and slide and swing. We really enjoyed the bison feeding and exploring the animals and playground in the ranch. Cheryl and the other owners were so helpful and kind. We will definitely be back!

Loved By The Whole Family - Something for Everyone Posted: Dec 7, 2021 I cannot tell you how wonderful a time we had station at the Bison Overlook Lodge, but my young grandson said, "Grandaddy can we not go home for another week?" We all enjoyed the lodge itself, our hosts and the employees of the resort, the animals, the playground, the hiking trails, the bison feeding, the depot, and the three grandsons all enjoyed the game room and the train museum as much as we would let them. The adults enjoyed the cabin and fireplace, inside and outside ones, were we gathered on each of the cold nights we experienced. We also found out just how much we enjoyed the area as the lodge is located with easy access to a lot of locations; Pisgah Forest and Trails, lots of waterfall sites, the museums in Asheville, Smokey Mountains, and Cherokee. So much to do and so little time to enjoy it. One week was not enough. We will be back. Thank you to the entire resort staff. You made our visit special and one we will all remember for years to come. Hope we can see you again.

It was clean, quiet, and had nice comfortable beds for us to relax in after our adventures during the day. It was centrally located to all our hiking spots and towns we wanted to visit. Tatonka Posted: Nov 1, 2021 We enjoyed the cabin and the experience overall. There were a couple of things to note - there was no bath soap or shower gel provided, nor any extra kitchen garbage bags. I would have been happy to bring these items, but they were not listed in the email I received with which items to bring. One of the sliding doors would not lock and when I texted Cheryl she said they were aware and had ordered parts. It would have been nice to know that, we had 9 women in the cabin and I did not feel at ease knowing one of the doors would not lock, even with it on the second floor. Also, having to put the garbage in my vehicle and take it a couple of miles away was inconvenient at best. Other than these minor items, we had a great experience.

Timber Hollow Oct 10-12 2021 Posted: Oct 27, 2021 Wonderful place to stay with family! We really enjoyed the space. Perfect amount of room, comfortable, right number of diversions (animals to watch, pool table, hot tub, etc). Would highly recommend for small groups. Only two things seemed to be missing from a well-stocked kitchen: dish rags and marshmallow sticks! Though I understand wanting to get a leg up on cleaning so you can flip the rentals, it is a very weird and very inconvenient rule to have all dishes washed and return to their places. I can understand needing to have dishwasher run, no dirties in the sink or elsewhere in the house, but to expect everyone out, dishes washed and put up by check out feels inhospitable.

Observations from Georgia Martin Posted: Oct 16, 2021 We really enjoyed the stay. We appreciated the quick response to the stove replacement. There were a few issues I feel you should be aware of for future guests in the Bison Escape. There are 3 bedrooms and the 2 full baths that are attached to the 2 bedrooms. The half bath downstairs has no electrical outlet. I stayed in the "kids" room which had no bathroom. The other guests let us use their bathrooms to shower but I had to go downstairs during the night. Doing hair or makeup was inconvenient in the half bathroom due to no electric outlets. The "kids" bedroom needs a mirror and another guest suggested full length mirrors in the bedrooms. Towel hooks would be helpful in the bathrooms. I appreciated you working with us due to the covid mess. This was definitely an enjoyable visit for all of us.

Best girls trip getaway! Posted: Sep 19, 2021 We came to this cabin for a 30th birthday girls trip getaway, and we had the best time. The cabin itself is much larger than expected, the basement is actually an entire suite itself with a second full kitchen. This place was cozy and spacious with plenty to do. Everyone that worked on the property were very friendly. We enjoyed feeding baby donkeys, and watching the bison eat their breakfast. There are horses, bunnies, birds, llamas, and even a turkey on the ranch. The ranch itself was great to explore, and was in a very convenient location to drive to other places to sight see. As this is not a hotel be prepared to bring a few extra things with you such as lighter fluid, lighters, charcoal, extra garbage bags, and toilet paper. Their kitchen was basically fully stocked with appliances we needed to cook meals with. They did have a seasoning rack, we still brought our own spices. The fridge has an ice and water spout so we loved that. Oh and the driveway was paved!

We enjoyed playing shuffle board, sitting by the fire pit on starlit nights and relaxing in the hot tub. The llamas were a special treat as we walked by them every morning. Waynesville is a great town close by to visit and eat great meals and there are so many breathtaking sites that were easy to find. Our family will always have fond memories of our Buffalo Ranch trip.

Amazing stay at Timber Hollow! Posted: Jul 29, 2021 Our family of 8 had a memorable vacation in this wonderful cabin! We all enjoyed the spacious layout, pool table, hot tub, fire pit and grilling burgers! It was immaculately cleaned so there was never a concern during this time of Covid. We loved walking to see the bison , llamas, & ponies & kids loved feeding the goats. We walked down to the river & kids enjoyed wading & skipping rocks. We found great hikes in the area, white water rafting, sliding rock, & fishing. We hope to return next year. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful cabin, too many ticks Posted: Jul 10, 2021 The cabin was perfect and had everything we needed. The game room, llamas, and bison in the area were also a great touch. Unfortunately the outdoor areas of our cabin were infested with ticks so we could not enjoy them. We also spent most of the days checking ourselves to make sure we wouldn’t bring in any ticks as we entered the house. The patios had too many on them and they would jump all over us. Wrote a letter to the Owner and still waiting for a reply. Would have given 5 stars if it weren’t for those critters making us hAve a stressful time. Wish the owners would have taken care of this situation before having guests at the house.

Awesome Experience and Hospitality Posted: Jun 26, 2021 The caboose was a one of a kind experience and everybody loved it. Our boys could not get enough of the loft and the caboose itself is quite roomy with a full kitchen, bathroom and all amenities. There is plenty to do aboard the grounds with all types of animals to visit. The bison made a trip down just outside our window to grab water during dusk, so that was an added bonus. All of the staff were very receptive and even opened the gift shop after hours so we could purchase some items, including frozen bison right off the farm. We could not have been happier with the experience and will definitely make another trip in the future!

Lots of great qualities - a few things to improve Posted: Jun 24, 2021 The layout it great, hot tub is awesome, and a great fire pit. 2 kitchens made fridge space easy, and the kids enjoyed the Bison and played pool and foosball endlessly. But I've got to say there were a two big drawbacks. 1) The hill to get to the cabin is scary and difficult. Our minivan couldn't make it in dry summer conditions. We had to unload all the kids and stuff to get up the hill. 2) Hauling our trash 3 miles away is dreadful. The owners need to pay for a dumpster and a service. For those two reasons, I don't think I'd come back.

Furniture old and needing cleaning. Area rugs old and needing to be replaced. Mattresses also could use an upgrade. The whole is in need of love. Did not get what we paid for, BUT your location is great and love the animals. Wishing you the best

The bunny decorations and details are absolutely adorable! The house is so cozy and comfortable. The covered front porch table was perfect for our first night to enjoy being outside and listening to the rain. The fenced in backyard was great for the dogs! We sat outside at the table and played games, while listening to the creek, grilled an amazing dinner and sat in the hot tub while watching the full moon come out! Animals made is nice Posted: Mar 22, 2021 I am a big fan of Buffalo Creek Vacations. I feel some of their other cabins are a little nicer than Bison Creek, but it was what was available within their family of cabins for the dates I needed for an end of the year ski trip. However, what made the stay very good was the animals right outside your door. My 3 year old love the mini-donkeys, goats, and cows right outside and frankly, so did I as well as the rest of the family. They didn't bother you at all. When inside the cabin, you don't hear them, but within 20-50 yards, you see and hear them. My three year old son now does a awesome goat impression. Next year I am going back to Buffalo Creek's largest cabin, Tatonka Lodge, and looking forward to doing that with my family and extended family.

Our 5yr old hasn't stopped talking about it. He's told all his cousins and it's now the only place they want to go for their next vacation. March Stay Posted: Mar 16, 2021 This caboose was an amazing experience. Clean and well put together. Our family had a blast! Only reason for 1/2 star decline was the pony rides on site were not worth the $10 per 2 min ride. Other than that, the property was fun with great views and the bison are so cool to look at during morning feeding and lounging during day.

Cheryl was very responsive to all our questions... very nice people to work with... HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUFFALO CREEK VACATIONS ....oh and definitely check out Haywood Smokehouse in Waynesville hands down some of the best bbq and fixings we’ve had and we are from Charleston SC so we know what good bbq is!!! Bison Overlook Lodge Posted: Mar 4, 2021 We had a wonderful week at Buffalo Creek! From the mini donkeys, bison, mini horses, goats and alpacas it was peaceful and had wonderful views. We had 8 people (4 adults, 3 teenagers, and 1 child) I will say this cabin isn’t really suited for 8 people. The dining table only has 6 chairs with two additional stools off to the side that don’t fit at the table (don’t expect sit down meals comfortably with your family). My husband had to sleep on the couch downstairs because the queen master wasn’t big enough for the two of us and our 5 year old. We planned on him sleeping on the pull out bed in the loft with one of the teens, but that is more like a twin sized space. Honestly, I should’ve looked further into this, but saying it sleeps 8 is not true. We would’ve booked a bigger cabin but it wasn’t available that week. Otherwise, if you have a smaller group this is a wonderful cabin! Views are incredible, clean house, awesome fire pit and game room.

Fireplace probably needs cleaning and the house cleaner needs to spot check the dishes for cleanliness or just have the occupants run the dishwasher before they leave. We had 7 adults and eight kids and two dogs and we all had plenty of space. The lodge was decorated for Christmas and everyone loved the atmosphere. Christmas Vacation Stay Posted: Dec 28, 2020 We loved the home itself and the owner was very responsive and respectful. I do not think that they clean well between stays , as there was dog hair on all the beds / sheets within the house. The Hott tub stopped working on the second night . They did send someone out promptly to check it, but was unable to resolve the issue prior to us leaving. We definitely loved being on the Bison Ranch and really enjoyed the pool table and the game room as well.

We loved being greeted by the cabin kitty who was just friendly enough to remind us she was still around but never a bother. We had fun seeing the bison eating and meeting the one week old baby bison. We were able to buy both charcoal and bison meat for one of our meals at the store on location. It was such a cool experience for the 3 of us, and even our pup had a good time. We were so glad to be able to bring her. The magazine article of Our State (Nov issue) stated that visitors/renters could help feed the bison. Wonderful place to escape Posted: Nov 13, 2020 The Red Dog Barn is an awesome cabin. It has the most amazing view. The cabin was a very comfortable place to come get away from stresses of life. It was decorated very nice too. One of the best parts was sitting in the swing on the front porch and watching the sun come up and go down and the bison. They go through 2-3 times a day back and forth to their hay. Loved watching them. I want to come back one day and bring my grandsons

Excellent and Relaxing! Posted: Nov 11, 2020 A+ The cabin was even better than as pictured online, which is rare. Comfortable and well-decorated, all basics were provided. The kitchen is full stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and small appliances. Bed and couch were very comfortable with plenty of pillows and throw blankets. The hot tub, sauna, and lower level game room were a bonus. The cabin feels very secluded, although there were other cabins nearby, we couldn’t see them and they couldn’t see us. Fire pit and grill were well placed and wood was provided. All the staff we encountered were friendly and eager to help. The buffalo are AWESOME! Buffalo Creek is only 30 minutes from Asheville which made it easy to venture out for day trips and spend chill mornings and evenings at the cabin. Overall, 10/10. One of the most relaxing vacations my husband and I have been on. Will definitely return.

The kitchen pots needs to be replaced and it could of been a lil cleaner. Other than that we had a good time at the cabin. Beautiful surroundings. I wish we had newspaper for the fire pit. The marshmallows and chocolate was a nice thought.

A Bison Great Stay Posted: Oct 7, 2020 Enjoyed a great relaxing week at Tatonka Lodge. More than spacious and the 2 master suites on the man floor were perfect for the adults with the kids downstairs with all the games. Our granddaughter loved sleeping in the wagon bed. The kitchen was well equipped. A first for our many rentals - the cabinets and drawers were all marked with the dishes and utensils in them. How smart! We made use of the hot tub (spotlessly clean), fire pit, and bbq grill. He kids loved walking down to the BC Depot visiting the animals and bison feedings. The location was perfect, 30 mins outside Asheville (of course we went to Biltmore again) and Maggie Valley, and 1 hour to Cherokee. The kids went to Hendersonville for some apple picking and they were so great. Not what you get in the chain supermarkets. We definitely recommend the Lodge to others.

Family getaway . Posted: Jul 29, 2020 This was our second time staying at Buffalo Creek Vacations. We stayed in the orange line caboose - Seaboard line. . Kids loved watching the Bison and the fire flys at nite - so quiet and peaceful. The Caboose was awesome - I recommend to everyone . In the morning we explored the property and watched the Bison eat from the platform . The Model train room upstairs is a must see my oldest was in heaven . We plan on coming back next summer .

Cute cabin on the hill Posted: Jul 29, 2020 We enjoyed staying at Hare Pinn Inn, the view from the backyard was beautiful and the use of the hot tub and fire pit, made for fun nights with the family.. Inside the cabin was nice, however; I felt it could have used a deep cleaning as the backsplash in the kitchen and bathroom were very dusty as well as under the beds and windowsills. Also, I wish they would have had some family board games, or suggest bringing some for those rainy nights. The BC Depot was a fun place to visit and the kids enjoyed all the animals and the game room, it is a shame it was only open for 2 hours. It would have been nice if they reopened the game room after dinner for another 2 hours. Overall, it was a nice place and I would stay there again.

Tigra & Us at the Bungalow Posted: Jul 14, 2020 Admittedly not much of a cat lover myself but our grandson loved caring for the resident feline who lives outdoors. The bungalow is wonderfully appointed and we enjoyed all our time there. Family was spread out amongst other cabins and the 20+ of us particularly enjoyed the buffalo and other activities. Local favorites were white water rafting, fishing and the zip line. A lot of fun time spent around the wood fire pit as well as cooking outdoors on the grill. Our 70-year-old calves took a couple of days to recover after hiking to the playground but it was worth it! Buffalo Creek is a perfect place in the beautiful hills especially given these crazy Covid times to enjoy each other‘s company for the week.

A Wonderful Experience Posted: Jul 13, 2020 My wife and our children (both under 7yrs) had an awesome time staying in the Gray caboose. We all enjoyed the animals, llamas, goats, and the friendly turkey, as well as seeing the bison. The game room and the playground on site were soo much fun as well. The interior of the caboose was well thought out, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was the cherry on top, everyone, even the owners made us feel very welcomed. We plan to book again later this year with more of our family.

Charming Hare Pin Inn Posted: Jul 13, 2020 A perfect spacious two bedroom cabin that sleeps 6 comfortably. With its charming decorations and furnishings, it is a real pleaser. I loved the fenced yard with the fire pit, jacuzzi and outdoor dinning area. I could sit on the cozy front porch all day listening to the trickling creek and birds sing all day. This cabin was the ideal place to escape from the worlds chaos and let your troubles melt away! Loved it!

A little disappointed. Posted: Jun 23, 2020 Very disappointing to find out the downstairs frig was moldy and didn't work. That should have been checked before our arrival. I will give Cheryl credit for the quick fix. The road up to the cabin is ridiculous and should be mentioned prior to your arrival along with the take your trash with you surprise. Then I am charged $25 for a small plastic iPad stand that costs maybe $5.00 after renting several cabins. Cheryl was great but disappointed over the above. You should tell people about the road up to the cabin as we had 2 vehicles get stuck. Or pave it.

Its in a great location, has access to lots of fun stuff for the kids, and Cheryl and her staff were very accomidating. The toy trains, the bison feeding, the hot tub, the donkeys and goats, the playground... it was all awesome. The kids loved it. Knowing what I know now though, I would have stayed in one of their places closer to the depot. Overall, we were very happy and would love to come back someday. P.S. we highly recommend stocking up at Presnell's just down the street. Amazing food and coffee!

Buffalo Bungalow - The Sequel Posted: Jun 18, 2020 My wife & I had stayed at the Bungalow in May 2019 and were anxious to return. Rescheduled to June from April (thanks to COVID) without issue thanks to Cheryl's help. Though 2020 has been challenging for most everybody, it was great to escape everything for most of a week at the Bungalow. The cabin has everything you could want and plenty of peace and quiet to spare. We enjoyed the hot tub, shooting pool, the sauna, and most of all just relaxing on the deck with the lovely view. Thrilled to see Porch Kitty again and fed her well. Looking forward to Part 3 some day down the line!

Being so close to the animals was so peaceful especially since it was the beginning of the virus outbreak. Instead of being able to ski or go into Asheville we hiked the property and took some drives to see the local waterfalls. I wished the hot water in the shower would've lasted a little longer, but it was cold the morning I was there. The road coming in would not be recommended for low riding vehicles. We stayed in the orange caboose and it was very clean and the best were comfortable. We splurged and had the Saturday morning breakfast. It was the best choice we could have made. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We also enjoyed bison steaks for dinner and brought home some of the bratwurst. We will definitely be back!!

Thanksgiving Family Gathering Posted: Dec 5, 2019 Great facility for our family gathering for Thanksgiving. Layout of the unit allowed for lots of common space as well as bedrooms on 3 different levels for privacy when needed. Good fun to watch the Bison feeding in the morning. Kitchen well outfitted for on-site meal preparation if desired. Bring your own bathroom supplies. Only furnished with towels and toilet paper. No bath soap or shampoo. No trash disposal on-site.......odd. Had to take trash to the local disposal facility to avoid a per bag charge for trash. With Thanksgiving dinner prep, lots of trash to lug to the community trash collection facility. Overall, a great place for family gatherings.

The location couldn't have been better, with walking trails nearby and a river we could hear from the house. We enjoyed making smores in the outdoor fire pit and star gazing. Staying in a real RR caboose was special as was seeing the other RR equipment. Bought plenty of souvenirs at the BC store for the grand kids and further enjoyed the trip to Hot Springs and of course the spa. Recommending Buffalo Creek to the rest of our family. A special thanks to the young man who helped me jump start my car as we were leaving and suggesting Interstate Battery in Waynesboro where I had to buy a new battery. We cooked, read, watched TV, played in the game room, fed the goats, relaxed in the hot tub, toasted some marshmallows for s'mores (thanks for the fixings) and welcomed the privacy for a peaceful stay. We enjoyed a pancake breakfast in the caboose, fished in the Pigeon River, and of course the highlight--watching the Bison feeding a couple of mornings of our stay.

The location is far enough from town to be nice, but not inconvenient. Great stay and we would recommend this to anyone looking for unusual lodging, especially with a couple of kids!

Timber hollow Posted: Oct 3, 2019 The cabin, timber hollow was great. The driveway, however, was not. It needs to have runoff conveyance structures in place so the gulleys carrying the extra water downhill are not as deep/wide and do not cross the driveway. Until this is done, more ground clearance is needed on vacationers vehicles.

In the main bedroom we had poor sleep due to the air conditioning being right over the bed. We tried turning down the temp but weren't able to figure it out. The girls loved looking at the buffalo and playing with the animals at the barnyard. Principal Posted: Jun 9, 2019 We enjoyed our stay very much. The Inn contained all of the conveniences of home. It is a great location not far from Bryson City, Sylva or Asheville. We were a bit disappointed by the bubbling up of sewage in the backyard, and staff seemed responsive but no one ever came to clean out the tank while we were there. The internet service by Hughes rarely provided a strong enough signal to watch Netflix, which was only an issue because our niece and nephew wanted to see some of their shows. Still, the quiet, the stars, the babbling brook and the millions of lightning bugs were magical.

Amazing Experience Posted: May 7, 2019 As if staying in a beautifully made-over train caboose wasn’t already amazing, the bison ranch that the caboose sits on is so incredibly awesome. From watching bison herds walk by right outside our window, to feeding goats, donkey, and mini-horses, or counting the frogs in the pond, we were enjoying every second of our stay. The whole experience was just amazing. We definitely booked the trip for our 5 year old son, but I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it just as much as he did.

Quiet getaway Posted: Mar 28, 2019 The Buffalo Bungalow is a perfect place to unwind and relax! The location is a serene mountain setting with beautiful views! Buffalo, ponies, goats, and a donkey roam the fenced in area. The cabin is clean, the bed cozy, the fireplace inviting, the lower level game room entertaining and the private hot tub relaxing under a spectacular moonlit sky! This is a nice location to be private and quiet but a quick drive to businesses and trails to hike.

Tatonka Lodge Posted: Jan 2, 2019 I can't say enough great things about this place and our wonderful Christmas week my family spent here. First off the log cabin was great, had everything we needed, clean and decorated for Christmas. Second, it was on an amazing bison/llama farm which the kids loved. Thank you Cheryl and Jenny. If we ever decide to come back up that way, I would definitely re-rent the cabin.

Great vacation but... Posted: Dec 31, 2018 Pros: Great area, it was beautiful. The area was about a 15 minute drive from Cataloochee skiing and town. The caboose we stayed in had a unique charm as the buffalo could be seen outside the windows. On the ranch there were several other properties and livestock. There was a few hiking trails accessible to the guests and one playground for the kids. Cons: Extra hidden costs, (i.e) $5 per trash bag. The front was closed from 12/24-12/26. We ran out of toilet paper. Would not recommend bringing pets, the property owner Cheryl will not be as charming after checkout. Cheryl left a great review on Airbnb about our stay with them. Then the next day claimed that the guests after us refused to stay in caboose because of fur from the dogs, however paid $100 dog fee + $35 cleaning fee. Also accused us of having three dogs, not true. Agreed on two (70lbs) dogs prior to arrival. Before we were so excited to come back and visit. After checkout it left a sour experience. Wish I could post messages

Cozy Caboose Posted: Nov 29, 2018 We enjoyed our stay in the Seaboard Coast Line #0843 Orange Caboose. The owners did a fantastic job remodeling and decorating this train caboose! We couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our 47th Anniversary. All we needed was our clothing and food. We enjoyed everything about our stay including the bison feeding, llamas, alpacas, goats, bunnies & mini horses. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Posted: Nov 26, 2018 I stayed at Buffalo Bungalow for a conference I needed to attend in Asheville. It was a short enough drive to the city, so my husband and I decided to take the opportunity to enjoy a little getaway at Buffalo Bungalow. It was the best vacation we have had! The cabin was perfect for two and we were able to bring our two small dogs. Jenni, who works in the office/depot was a wonderful host. She called us to see if we needed anything from the store, always kept our cups full of delicious local hot cider, and even got me a hairbrush since I forgot one! The cabin was beautiful and quiet and had everything we needed. We received an email ahead of time advising us of what to pack and what would be stocked. The sauna and hot tub were so cozy and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed all the animals on the property and the trails to walk our dogs. We look forward to heading back as soon as possible. A perfect couples getaway.

Beautiful place to get away to. Posted: Nov 22, 2018 All of the cabins are so beautiful, clean, and well furnished. The views are amazing and the family and staff that operate the ranch are very kind and friendly. As an added bonus, guests are allowed to get a close up view of American Bison. There is also a group of smaller animals that guests can pet and feed pellets to. Clyde NC is a lovely area to visit and Buffalo Creek Vacations will always be our only choice for a NC Mountain vacation.

Amazing Buffalo Bungalow! Posted: Nov 21, 2018 We had a lovely stay in the Buffalo Bungalow and gladly used all the fun games and relaxing amenities of the hot tub and massage table! We loved seeing the bison feeding each morning and the model trains at Agapeland Station! From the wraparound porch we saw both sunsets and sunrises. Thank you for a wonderful getaway in the mountains!

Tatonka Lodge was perfect!! Posted: Nov 16, 2018 I booked the Tatonka Lodge back in May when I also booked the Polar Express Train ride for November 10th. I so wished I had planned a few extra days to just enjoy the house, land and all the animals at Buffalo Creek!! We had such a fantastic time with 2 of our girls, 3 grandchildren, my brother, my niece and her family that we WILL be booking again in the future. We have 2 more daughters that didn’t get to come but have made sure they will be available the next trip. Watching the buffalo get fed and then us being able to feed the small animals...baby goats were our favorite!! The playground and the store were hits too as papa bought everyone something (toys for the little ones and Tshirts for the others)!! Warm apple cider after the feedings was perfect as we were super cold. We found out they do bday parties there too!! Thank you Cheryl for making your home our little slice of heaven for a weekend. We will see you again!!

Best place to stay near the Smokys Posted: Oct 29, 2018 This cabin is so perfect for a couple. Super cozy with a fireplace that is open to both the living room and the bedroom, attention to every detail, beautifully decorated, everything you could need for making a big breakfast, baking, grilling out, etc. It's peaceful and secluded, beautiful views all around the wrap around porch. Very comfortable- you won't want to leave. Animals everywhere, making you feel like you're staying on a farm- just a great escape from city life. A recommendation would be to arrive before nightfall because the driveway is steep. We stayed once and ventured out to the surrounding area a lot, and then stayed a second time just to truly enjoy all the accommodations and the relaxing vibe at the cabin.

Not our taste Posted: Oct 22, 2018 Booked 5 nights for our anniversary trip- I looked at countless cabins within a 30 mile radius of Asheville and I thought this one met all of my criteria and then some. My necessities were to have a hot tub and a game room. We did not use any of the amenities because everything was so dark, light bulbs were out in every room and I ran into or touched cobwebs all over the place. Everywhere I looked there were dusty cobwebs. While the cabin was in desperate need of a deep clean, it was not dirty, but it needs quite a few minor repairs. Granted, I am a city girl, but this was far more country living then I bargained for. We only ended up staying in the cabin for 2 out of the 5 nights. My original plan was to spend most of our vacation at the cabin but it didn't work out because it was an uncomfortable environment for us. We absolutely loved your goats though! It was a great surprise to have them right in front of our cabin. I'm sorry, I wanted this to be a great experience, but it wasn't.

The Tilmanns Posted: Oct 14, 2018 Returning to Totonka Lodge for the 4th year, we had a wonderful time as we always do. The location and facilities are perfect for our family reunion (14 of us). Good memories Posted: Sep 20, 2018 Our family had a wonderful weekend celebrating my 70th birthday, which included getting eight little cousins together to become reacquainted when they live so far apart. The accommodations were just what we needed! The view from the front drive is fantastic! The children loved the playground, the hot tub, watching the bison feeding, and making s'mores at the firepit, and the adults loved that they loved it. Those of us without four wheel drive had difficulty negotiating one steep hill on the drive in, but I have since heard that it has been paved so we could make a return visit without difficulty.

Perfect Vacation/Beautiful Memories Posted: Sep 17, 2018 We loved our Buffalo Bungalow on the hill side! The cabin could not have been more perfect! It was squeaky clean, full of charm as you would picture a cabin in the woods to be, yet full of luxurious amenities and modern conveniences! We are not "hot tub people" but found ourselves in the hot tub every night. We loved our "porch" kitty, the sounds of the buffalo and other farm animals as well as the rustling leaves and all of natures glory from our porch! From our first contact with with Cheryl to make reservation to meeting her family on the farm, we realized that we were in a special place! The kindness was refreshing. The labor of love, family commitment, hard work and dedication defined this beautiful mountain side. We would highly recommend Buffalo Creek Resort and we will be coming back!

My son rated it a 10 out of 10 Posted: Aug 22, 2018 We enjoyed our stay. It was fun to see the bison, lamas and animals there. We had easy access to Ashville or the Natahala River or other day trips. The cabin in was clean and in good condition. What could be improved was the hot tub was way too hot and the controls didn't work, the dart board was broken and the rooms for the billiards and pingpong were a bit too small. We enjoyed the outdoor grill and firepit. It was a great stay. We would return again.

I rate our experience 4 stars Posted: Aug 13, 2018 We really enjoyed the stay despite the rainy weekend. The cabin was very well kept and I loved all the amenities. The views from the cabin were beautiful. One small comment, just wished the downstairs bathroom was a little bigger. The road going up to the cabins was a little interesting, but not a real problem. Although with all the rain you could tell the people who did not have 4 wheel drive. Lots of ruts in the road by Sunday!! We enjoyed watching the buffalo getting fed. You got a great view from the deck over the pens. We would definitely consider coming back for another stay.

A fantastic spot. Posted: Aug 12, 2018 The Cabin comes with ammenities that aren't found in other rentals, all functional and in good working order. Bed is comfortable, and the entire cabin is clean. If you're for a little peace and quiet, with no mosquitoes, a few fireflies to dazzle the imagination, this is a spot you might enjoy. "We" would definately recommend this cabin and look forward to our next visit.

Wonderful place for a family to stay! Posted: Jul 30, 2018 We knew we wanted to stop in the Asheville area on our way to the beach, and when we found Buffalo Creek Vacations online, we knew we HAD to stay there! We were not disappointed at all with our visit! We had an incredible stay in the gray caboose and our two kids loved every minute of our stay- from watching the buffalo graze right outside our window, the goats, chickens, horses, alpacas, and llamas, watching the morning buffalo feeding, and exploring the ranch by walking around. And that's not even covering the inside of the caboose! We had a very comfortable stay inside the caboose. It was furnished with almost everything we needed, and Cheryl was great about communicating prior to our visit with what is in the caboose and what we would have to bring. We are telling all of our family and friends about Buffalo Creek Vacations and hope that they will be visiting soon too!

The age of our members was 10 to 71 and there was something for everyone; hot tub, pool table (game room had multiple games), a little hiking, animals to visit, and there was an upstairs card room. Previously, we had rented a big house at the beach but we liked this better!

Great people, Great place Posted: Jul 10, 2018 It was really nice to get out and into the hills for a couple days. We really enjoyed staying in the Caboose and the concept was super exciting for the kids. Watching the Bison walk by in the evenings and the mornings and then watching them get fed in the morning was a lot of fun. But our kiddos really enjoyed interacting with the goats, ponies, Llamas, etc. Our hosts were wonderful people with a great story. We'll probably come back someday, hopefully sooner than later!

The suspended bed was so awesome! (they had blocks there if you wanted to stabilize it though too). Double headed shower...way cool! Relaxing in the woods Posted: Jun 2, 2018 I love this place! The cabin was very rustic but cozy and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The large porch was wonderful. I sat out there and drank my coffee and it was bliss. Within a short walking distance I was able to feed goats, llamas, many horses, and see buffalo. The hot tub was so relaxing. I didn’t try the sauna but I’d like to go back and do that next time. Overall it was a very peaceful experience. Better than I could’ve hoped for.

Absolutely Perfect! Posted: May 12, 2018 My husband and I spent a wonderful long weekend at Buffalo Bungalow. The place is absolutely perfect! Everything you could ever want for a couples trip. The hot tub was exceptionally clean as well as the rest of the cabin. Kitchen has everything you need if you plan to cook or grill. They even left us stuff for smores! The game room is fun. The view is super cool. You're kinda in the treetops so you can really watch all the birds. It is so perfectly peaceful and quiet. Also, the light switches are labeled which is much more helpful than you can imagine. Certainly makes everything easier to find and definitely helps make the place feel perfectly like home the minute you walk in the door! Can't wait until we're able to come back!

Perfect Posted: Apr 25, 2018 This is the perfect place for a couple to getaway. My new wife and I went here for our honeymoon. We loved the cabin and all of the extras in it. Cheryl set up us well (she even gave us farm fresh eggs and stuff for s’mores). You can have involvement in the property if you’d like. They set up opportunities to see the animals, but we decided to go hiking and view the nearby towns instead. This is exactly what we were looking for, and I’d recommend Buffalo Creek to anyone.

Dads’ Fun Time Posted: Apr 14, 2018 My Brother and I took our three children on an adventure. They are 10, 2, and 13 months. We fit comfortably in the caboose with room for all our stuff. For two guys, the caboose has everything we needed to make meals and enjoy time with our kids. The kids loved all the animals and the 2 year old even got to go for a ride on the mini-horse Red Cloud. The owners were nice enough to open the brand new Smokey Mountain RailRoad model train layout that the kids just could not believe the details and excitement of watching the trains run around the tracks in all directions. The whole ride home the kids kept asking to go back. We will be back again soon. Thanks for such a unique family place to relax and enjoy life together.

Wonderful Memories Made At Tatonka Lodge Posted: Apr 4, 2018 We came to Buffalo Creek Vacations in 2010 with family members, It was such a beautiful place and the cabin Tatonka Lodge had everything anyone would need. We decided to take our daughter and grandkids there on Spring Break this year and make memories with them. The location is ideal for many other sites and things to do. We went to Catawaba Falls and Chimney Rock and went to Waynesville and Maggie Valley and Cherokee. We took grandkids to Biltmore House and had lunch one of the days in Asheville, Would highly recommend to everyone!!!!!!

Nice cabin Posted: Mar 25, 2018 The cabin was clean and organized. A few things that may make people feel more welcome is more than 1 roll of paper towels and 1 roll of toilet paper . Recquiring that the trash be taken out is a little more than I have ever been asked especially since we are paying for cleaning and that trash is a driving bit away . The path should all be paved for vehicles ( I know this cost money but it is just a suggestion) . Overall it is a nice stay .

A Unique Experience Posted: Mar 19, 2018 What a treat this Caboose and grounds were to be in. Our boys, 9 and 12 thought it was just the coolest and we were all very comfortable staying here for the night. We were lucky to enjoy a gentle snow fall and wake up to white grounds; it didnt stop us from watching the Bison get fed in the morning. We wish we would have stayed another night to enjoy the other activities on the property.

Romantic Rustic Getaway Posted: Jan 29, 2018 This visit marked mine and my husband's 4th trip to Buffalo Bungalow and ensured that we will return for a 5th! We always love the cabin's well-stocked kitchen and after some light grocery shopping, we spend the weekend cooking and don't even leave the cabin except to explore the grounds. The goats and miniature horses visited frequently in the back yard area, we even had a goat give birth right outside - quite exciting! The trails offer a nice, easy walk through mother nature and help one to reconnect with the surroundings. The staff could not be nicer, we have seldom had to reach out to them, but when needed they are more than accommodating. Thank you Buffalo Creek Vacations for giving us a much needed break from the fast-paced world in a beautiful setting!

A fun place to stay! Posted: Nov 10, 2017 We stayed in the caboose for one night for my son's 9th birthday. The caboose was very well appointed and the kids loved sleeping in the cupola. It was very private. We enjoyed walking around the grounds. The only drawback was the air conditioner/heater wasn't working very well so it was a bit warm during the day and it got cold at night. It would have been nice to be able to open the windows. Other than that, we greatly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back!

Perfect vaca Posted: Nov 1, 2017 We really like getting away and having a nice, quiet place to stay. Buffalo Bungalow provided us with privacy, a beautiful view, and every single accommodation you could possibly think of. We've been to the Smoky Mountain area a few times in the last few years for vacation but now that we've found Buffalo Creek Vacations we won't be looking for new places to stay each time. We just want to come here again and again because it's perfect. The cabins are gorgeous, the grounds are so interesting to check out because of all the animals, and with Maggie Valley only 20 minutes away it's a convenient location to grab dinner (if you don't want to cook in the full kitchen or on the grill), or go explore. We had a WONDERFUL time.

The setting was peaceful, the house was furnished with everything you could possibly need, and the kids were thrilled with the S'more welcome basket. A great place for a big family! Posted: Sep 2, 2017 The Tatonka Lodge is a beautiful place that for our group of 9 adults and 7 kids comfortably, with plenty to do around the cabin and in the surrounding area, including golf, whitewater rafting, and all of Asheville. Cheryl was a wonderful host, quick to respond whenever we needed anything. The one thing to be aware of is, the drive from the main road to the lodge is up a mountain, with steep gravel roads and tight turns. It's not something that you want to drive for the first time in the dark!

Great time with the bison Posted: Aug 17, 2017 We really enjoyed our stay in the caboose. Our favorite experience was one evening just before dark. The fireflies were twinkling everywhere when I noticed how many bison were grazing in the pasture just across the driveway from our caboose. We went out and watched 21 beautiful animals enjoy the cool mountain air. It was so quiet we could hear them munching the grass.

Tatonka Posted: Aug 4, 2017 Tatonka was a very spacious cabin with games to play in the basement and a great balcony eat on. However, the cabin came with problems. The appliances were all broken, the fireplaces were not cleaned out from the winter ashes, the furniture was dirty and had holes in the fabric, the baby equipment was either broken or dirty. We had problems with the TV and internet. However, the family was very friendly and resolved the internet problem and installed a new TV while we were there. Even though it is a rental, do not expect any sample toiletries or coffee filters for your first morning. We had to ask for grass to be cut at the playground since it was up to the kids' waist. Plus the trails had downed trees on the path and we had to ask for those to be cleared. Basically the cabin is in need of a remodel after several years of use. The carpet was stretched out and dirty. Overall, Buffalo Creek is a nice retreat but Tatonka needs a facelift. Be prepared for a rough ride up the hill!!

Weekend Getaway in the Caboose Posted: Aug 1, 2017 Staying in the Caboose was a truly comforting experience from beginning to end. Upon arrival, there was a kind welcome note written on a chalk board, which made us feel right at home. Cheryl's customer service throughout the booking process, during our stay, and after checking out were top notch. Beautiful views of the mountains, wildlife, and a tranquil environment provided for a wonderful weekend get away. We had everything we needed to make us feel right at home. It was only two of us, but the caboose could easily sleep an entire family. Asheville, NC was only 40 minutes away, and if you enjoy breweries, I would highly recommend going. Plenty to do between hiking, kayaking, and fly fishing too. We even got to see a bison calf roaming around, which was born just the night before! I would highly recommend staying in the caboose, or any of Buffalo Creek's other properties for that matter. We can't wait to come back for another visit!

Unique experience! Posted: Jul 28, 2017 My 76yr old mother & adult son stayed in the Caboose, the rest of the family stay at Timber Hollow for the wk. They spent most of the time at the cabin and used the Caboose for shower & sleep. My mother enjoyed waking to the bison outside the window. The interior is great. The kitchen is clean, adequate for light cooking. The bed was comfortable for 2 small adults. My son was to tall for the pull out so he got the bed. My mother said the pull out would be ok for a child, there is a bar that hits the lower back. Although we did not use the loft, I don't believe it is usable in July. It was unbearably hot up there. There is a fan directed up there and the nights were cool so that might help. The pictures advertised need to be updated. The wooded area behind the Caboose now has a large building (depot) on it. It is easy to find and navigate the area. Overall it was a good experience for our needs. I think it would be ok for a small family (size & number) if spending most of time outside.

June 20-22nd Posted: Jun 27, 2017 We loved our stay at the caboose. There were plenty of sleeping options for best friends and our dogs to stay in the caboose. The only downside we encountered was the construction. We were not made aware of the train station being built right behind our caboose, another caboose being renovated right next door to us, and more down the road. The timing of the construction was thoughtful, not too early, and was done by the time we got back from our adventures, but the sight of the construction was not what we were expecting. It took away from the ambiance of the "getaway". We thoroughly enjoyed the bison, bison feeding, animals, and staying in the caboose. Away from the construction, the atmosphere was amazing, we loved adventuring around town and Asheville. We most definitely will be back, but after the construction is complete. Thank you again for being dog friendly, the pups enjoyed themselves!

Bisson overloook amazing Posted: Jun 22, 2017 What a great cabin for our family. Our 10-year-old twins loved feeding the goats and miniature horses right through the gate in our backyard every day. We ventured to the river down across the road and We all had amazing day doing our own gem mining. The staff was very helpful When we requested to open up the shop and hold the bunnies.( although one of my daughters is it avid animal lover and was a little upset about the bunnies in the front cages having very long teeth and nails ) I think our only disappointment would've been the bison feeding was never on schedule so we were never able to actually see it. We also enjoyed the playground on the property and walking through some of the trails. We seemed pretty centrally located to tubing and Navitat zip lining which were both really great experiences for the whole family.Overall the experience was so much more than we anticipated and we will certainly be returning next year for a stay. Nice cabin off the beaten track Posted: Jun 8, 2017 Bison Escape is a bit of a way from the main complex. You will need to drive if you are going to see the animals (buffalos, ponies, goats, bunnies and the adorable llamas). You can buy food to feed them. Small children especially love them. There is a small store that sells buffalo meat, eggs and souvenirs. There is a playground in main area. It needs some loving care and is not easily accessible for small children. The cabin had 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Nice layout with a front porch and side porch with whirlpool. There is a hammock in yard plus some benches by fireplace. A nice touch was Graham crackers, marshmallow and chocolates were on counter. There is a washer & dryer. There is also a game room. Many of the games had missing pieces. There were also an assortment of toys for smaller children. We did advise manager pots & pans in awful shape, upstairs shower not working right and in general better check list needed. Promised to rectify. Cleaning chg plus u take garbage - odd!

Wonderful for young family or couples Posted: Jun 1, 2017 The caboose was wonderful for our family of four, with two young ones ages 2 and 5. It was plenty of room, as there's a bedroom with a double bed, along with a loft with a double mattress pad and pull-out single bed in the living room/kitchen area. Everything was renovated recently so its fresh and new but with such cute decor in the caboose. The caboose also had a deck where we ate most of our meals. The caboose sits on a hill overlooking a pretty pasture area where the bison roam. It's awesome to wake up to the bison and beautiful scenery. There are also two or three cabooses being added to the property! But hope it will be as peaceful and quiet when the other cabooses are remodeled, as it was for just the four of us. On the Buffalo Creek property, there are a few other cabins, an area with goats, mini horses and bunnies, feeding area for bison and a playground (for older kids). Lots to do around BC to keep busy and great customer service when corresponding with Cheryl.

The caboose was very nicely done and had all the comforts of home. This was the perfect experience for our son, and any children who enjoy the outdoors. Incredible Stay at Buffalo Creek Tatonka Lodge Posted: Jan 15, 2017 Our weekend stay at Buffalo Creek was absolutely amazing from start to finish. We rented out Tatonka Lodge with 14 of us in total. I came here to propose to my now fiancee surrounded by family and friends and the beautiful backdrop of the Smoky Mountains was the perfect setting for it. The lodge itself blew us all away, it was even more jaw dropping in person than it was in the pictures. The views from all areas of the lodge were incredible as it sits atop the mountainside. The amenities at Tatonka Lodge were plentiful as the house is loaded with cool features such as wood burning fireplaces spanning multiple levels, to an outdoor hot tub and firepit, to a pool table and a fooseball table on the lower level, this place has it all! On top of everything Buffalo Creek has to offer it is just a short drive to major destinations such as The Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock State Park, and Downtown Asheville to name a few. We will without a doubt be coming back here, thanks again!

Amazing Vacation! Posted: Jan 4, 2017 We took our family to Buffalo Creek this summer for vacation. It was an amazing experience. The amenities at Timber Hollow were so incredible we found ourselves just wanting to hang out at the cabin. Foosball and pool tables were a hit for our sons and we all enjoyed the hot-tub after evening talks around the fire pit. Our family (2 dogs included) loved the hiking and seeing the other animals--buffalo, llamas, etc. Built on the side of a mountain, the setting was breathtaking. The sweet people of Buffalo Creek took care of us at the outpost/store onsite where we got many supplies including fresh meat for delicious bison burgers. Timber Hollow was well stocked with all the supplies we needed--we were even greeted with marshmellows, chocolate and graham crackers to get our smores going. Creatively decorated this was the most phenomenal log-cabin we have seen. The hospitality of the staff was top-notch and we hope to return soon.

The cabin was beautiful and spacious and the views were amazing. The cabin was beautifully crafted and had multiple amenities, none of which went unused. We had a great time and Cheryl was available for all of our needs. If our next vacation brings us to Clyde we will definitely be back to buffalo creek!

Perfect Mini-Vacay Posted: Nov 15, 2016 We planned a long weekend trip here with our 3.5 year old daughter and 1 year old son. Our daughter loved all the animals! She loved feeding the goats and looking at the bunnies. She also loved making s'mores at the fire pit. The playground was perfect too! We all enjoyed the Buffalo. We made sure our grandchildren were careful, but there were lots of things we had to watch them very carefully to insure nothing was harmed. It was great being out watching the animals. The road getting to the bungalow was quite steep and hard to drive on or walk up. The scenery was very good. Overall it was a good visit.

They loved the animals and the playground. We did not go see the Bison until we were leaving. I wish we would have went to watch the feeding. We enjoyed watching the stars out on the back porch and having conversations on the swing on the front porch. I do not understand why anybody would want to stay in a hotel room. When you could stay in a beautiful place like that. It Feels Like Home. I can't wait to go back and stay in one of the other cabins. The only thing I would have changed. would have been staying longer. Like I said I can't wait to go back.

My kids loved the cabin, specially the playroom. We live in Miami and that was the first time for my children in a place where nature is everything. Perfect Getaway Posted: Jun 6, 2016 To say we loved this place is an understatement. We loved staying in the caboose! Our 7 year old son loved to sit up in his bed and see the bison take naps and play in the afternoon. All the little things are already at the cabin waiting for you! Cooking utensils, pots, pans... The whole 9!!! Had fire wood waiting for us and they have marshmellow forks you can check out from the general store. The general store has so many cute things and we had to grab a couple reminders of our stay. Seeing the bison get fed is a great experience! Plus all the other farm animals! Th dogs Cody and Frisbee are a friendly sight as well. This place is truly magical and cant wait to return! We enjoyed the s'mores and thought it was a nice touch. The hill was a bit tricky, but we got the hang of it before leaving. We loved seeing the animal in the yard while having our morning coffee on the deck and enjoyed watching the buffalo at feeding time. We had intentions of day trips, but ended up spending most of our time in the cabin. We enjoyed the game room and sauna, massage table, and hot tub. My only critique would be a be the coffee pot. Seemed to leak and was too small. Very minor. If you stay here, you will not be disappointed. The owners are very friendly and the area is beautiful. We hope to return again!

Awesome Family Friendly Trip Posted: Mar 29, 2016 Bison Overlook exceeds expectations! The cabin and grounds are gorgeous. Having three kids that wanted to snow ski, taking advantage of the kids ski free program in conjunction with Catalochee Ski was a must. The hot tub was relaxing at the end of the day, and the fire pit was perfect. Kids loved the private playground and seeing all the animals, especially the baby goats and mini horses. Cheryl was very responsive and helpful. Not to be missed!

The property is far enough away from town to be quiet and secluded, but close enough to go skiing one day. Overall great. I would definitely go back.

LOVE Buffalo Bungalow Posted: Feb 17, 2016 I initially found this property on AirB&B. The photos of this lovely cabin won the day. Mother Nature succeeded in interrupting our original dates with 2' of snow in the Asheville area. When it became certain we couldn't get to the area from Kentucky, Cheryl, the owner, was endlessly accommodating. We rescheduled and finally got to Clyde! The cabin was everything pictured and more. The attention to detail was wonderful. Each room was lovely and comfortable. Add to this the fully appointed kitchen, double sided fireplace, hot tub and sauna - heaven!! I wanted to move this cabin back to Kentucky! The hot tub is on the sunrise side of the cabin. Just perfect! Cheryl owns and manages this property with her family. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Extra special bonus - it's pet friendly!! I'll be back! Sooner than later I hope! Thank you Cheryl and family for our very special week!!

Great Family Vacation! Posted: Jan 20, 2016 The Bison Overlook cabin was just as described and more! The only problem we had was getting up the steep gravel driveway in our minivan. It can be done, but not easy! That being said, everything else was perfect. Even though we knew we were on a bison farm and expected to see some animals, we were delightfully surprised to see the miniature horses and goats right at the fence in our "backyard" every morning. What a treat for the kids to feed and pet them every day. Our dog especially enjoyed being in the great outdoors and meeting up with them. The cabin felt very homey and was spacious and clean and tastefully decorated. The owners were quick to reply to our queries and to open their outpost when we needed some fire supplies and goat feed (an ample amount of firewood provided but we needed more kindling). We loved this vacation so much we are considering coming back to experience it in another season. Everyone in the area was super friendly and helpful. Places we enjoyed nearby were:

The cabin was perfect with all the amenities anyone could ever need, even a game room. Wildlife up close and personal to interact with. The Waynesville/Clyde area of Western North Carolina is simply beautiful anytime of the year. The locals are friendly and downtown Waynesville is like a step back in time. Lots of little shops and plenty of selections for food and beverage. Great time with my little ones! Posted: Nov 16, 2015 We had a wonderful time at bison escape, the place was large enough for all of us (4 adults and 4 children), and it was very well equipped. Clean and ready for us! The only bad thing is that the view was limited to a small field and you had to get your car to go to the other amenities (farm animals, playground, bison, etc). If they had a good trail to the main area I would have given them 5 stars. It was an enjoyable time for us all!

We enjoyed all the entertainments in the cabin, such as pool table, table tennis, and table soccer. Particular, we loved hot tub very much. Additionally, the cabin has very large kitchen. We enjoyed cooking. The kitchen contains all kitchen utensils. In the end, the location is very nice. Every morning, we can see buffalos in the ranch.

Tatonka Lodge Stay Posted: Aug 31, 2015 It was our first time to Maggie Valley and had a wonderful time with 6 adults and a 1 year old. Tatonka Lodge is gorgeous and just as shown in the pictures. The buffalo and other animals on the ranch are a nice touch and great for youngsters. My only disappointment was the road condition leading to the lodge. The website said a 4-wheel drive vehicle was needed in the winter. I would suggest it is needed all year round. The best day we had was our trip to Dupont State Forest. The waterfalls there are unbelieveable and can be seen from a short 2.25 mile roundtrip hike. Clingmans Dome is also worthwhile but check weather conditions for visibility. Whitewater rafting at Nantahala (NOC) is also a great day and fun trip. We also enjoyed spending time in Waynesville. Plenty of resturants and shops including the Mast Genearl Store which is a must.

Wonderful family vacation Posted: Aug 28, 2015 Wanted a place for a relaxing family vacation and Bison Overlook Lodge was a perfect choice. Beautiful, very quiet and great views of the mountains and animals. The cabin is large, quiet, very nicely decorated and has everything you could want or need.The homemade beds and other furniture are very nicely done and comfortable. Close to many activities, we went to Asheville, Cherokee and white water rafting, all short drives. The owners are very friendly, and readily available for any needs, be it info on the animals on the ranch, area activities or anything else you may need. We really enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit and just sitting on the deck relaxing. We would definitely recommend Buffalo Creek Vacations.

Great Place for a Vacation! Posted: Aug 27, 2015 We had a great time a Bison Overlook. The house was beautiful and just as advertised. We had breakfast on the deck while the sun rose over the mountains. The deck was also perfect in the afternoons on a hot day because it was then in the shade. If you got chilly in the shade, all you had to do was move to the front porch and sit and read in the hammock chair in the afternoon sun before it disappeared behind the mountain. We spent a couple evenings in the hot tub and squeezed in a fire in the fire pit. Don’t let the suspended bed in the master bedroom intimidate you – if you don’t like the gentle swaying, Cheryl kindly provides blocks so that it can be made as steady as any other bed you’ve slept in. The animals surrounding the house are a lot of fun. The mini-horses and goats would come up to the fence to greet us when we were sitting outside. Bison Overlook is a wonderful place to spend your vacation.

Nice week in the Smokies Posted: Jul 31, 2015 The Bison Escape cabin was very nice, spacious and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals at night and the firepit was nice for smores. The kids really loved the game room and playing air hockey and having the time away from the adults. The cabin looked exactly how the pictures were presented on the website and we were very pleased. We all enjoyed viewing the bison and feeding the smaller animals at the outpost. Also, the cabin has a good location for being able to access I-40 and Hwy 23 if you want to visit Ashville, Waynesville or Smokey Mountain National Park.

Family Reunion Friendly! Posted: Jul 30, 2015 Ten of our family members stayed at the Tatonka Lodge and two stayed at the Buffalo Bungalow, which is within walking distance up a short hill. The Tatonka lodge was a perfect size for our three families, and had many activities on site for the children and adults. We enjoyed breakfast with the bison, making smores in the fire pit outside, relaxed in the spa and had a great time playing games together. The lodge was our home base as we traveled to The Great Smoky Mountains, Sliding rock, Skinny dip falls (located a short hike off the Blue ridge parkway), Lake Junaluska, Ashville and Waynesville. There was much to do and we enjoyed every moment.

Romantic get away Posted: Jul 27, 2015 This is a beautiful cabin, tucked away in the trees. A quiet, peaceful location, with all the luxury one could ever desire. The back porch is large and has a lovely view. A perfect place for a romantic get away.

Lisa and Tim and Buffalo Bungalow Posted: Jul 20, 2015 My fiancé and I stayed in Buffalo Bungalow. I've got to say it was just about the most peaceful, relaxing four days ever! I so wished we could've stayed much longer. The cabin was absolutely exquisite. We barely left the cabin itself with all the amenities, fun, and beauty inside. The game room, the sauna, and massage table were great. Outside, we loved relaxing on the wrap around porch, soaking in the hot tub, or roasting smores in the fire, all while taking in the beautiful mountain scenery. We made frequent visits to the animals, including llamas, goats, miniature horses, and of course the buffalo that roam this beautiful property. The owners were so friendly and really made us feel at home. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and can't wait to return to this Smoky Mountain area where we got engaged =) It is truly a gem of a vacation property, for families, kids and couples.

Great Honeymoon Spot Posted: Jul 15, 2015 My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Buffalo Bungalow. The cabin itself was very clean and included everything we needed to cook our own food. When we weren't exploring other parts of the Smokies, we enjoyed days resting in our cabin and exploring the property. There was always something to do. The staff were friendly, responsive, and eager to hear how they can improve their guests' stay, which was very appreciated. There are a few small reasons why I can't give a 5-star rating. A few items in the cabin are starting to show some wear and tear from past uses (e.g. dart feathers need replacing, TV remote did not connect well with the TV). There was also not enough toilet paper to last our stay and we had to buy extras. An extra set of towels would have also been nice as we preferred to use different towels for the hot tub and showering. In the end, I would definitely consider returning and recommending Buffalo Creek Vacation Rentals to others. Thank you!

Timber Hollow Posted: Jul 11, 2015 We had a great time. The cabin is well furnished and supplied. The area is beautiful. The driveway was a challenge the first time and then just funny after that (rather steep, but entertaining!). Hostess and her family are wonderful. Loved the bison and other animals we got to see and feed.

The kids all loved the gameroom while the adults enjoyed evenings in the hot tub! The animals were an added bonus. The owners were extremely helpful from start to finish! We will definitely be renting from Buffalo Creek in the future!

Great spring break! Posted: Apr 10, 2015 We stayed at Tatonka Lodge as two families with 6 kids ranging from 6 mos to 11 years old for spring break. It was wonderful! The weather was gorgeous, the hiking along the blue ridge parkway was breathtaking. We spent a couple of days just exploring the property and enjoyed feeding the animals, playing at the playground and on the big tire swing, hiking to the picnic table and playing tetherball. The kids loved the game room. The amenities were complete as described, though I'm glad I brought my own pack and play and feeding chair. The infant/baby gear was in a jumble in the basement closet. We would definitely recommend staying at this lovely cabin, but be prepared for a steep driveway getting there!

Wonderful place to be! Posted: Mar 23, 2015 The Buffalo Bungalow was great in every way. The cabin was more beautiful than the pictures we saw online, the staff was outstanding and super friendly, and though the weather was not good everything else was perfect. We had tons of fun with the attractions and the local shops and restaurants. We visited the mining place in Asheboro which was a lot of fun. The post at the buffalo bungalow was cute and creative great place to get a souvenir. We really enjoyed everything around! We highly recommend this cute romantic couples cabin to anyone who wants to spend time with their significant other alone with peaceful quietness. We also got to watch the buffalo eat breakfast, pet lamas, feed the mini horses & goats & roosters (they love the corn) all at the cabin. It was an amazing anniversary and birthday that we will love and cherish forever because of this wonderful place! Don't forget to take pictures & get souvenirs! We hope to enjoy the cabin again one day!

Feedback - Margaret Schwenke and friends! Posted: Mar 22, 2015 We had a fantastic time. Cheryl was very responsive right from the beginning. We were very impressed with the offerings of the cabin and it worked perfectly for our group. We found it to be lovely grounds as well, with the bison and other animals to visit with! The rolling hills and picturesque views were just breathtaking. We were surprised that there weren't more hiking trails around, but maybe we missed them.
