Private and spacious Posted: Jul 7, 2024 Pros: kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots/pans, etc, plenty of space, hottub was nice, property is beautiful, very few people around, reasonably priced, owner was extremely friendly and helpful Cons: Internet was ok at best, it wasn’t perfectly clean when we arrived, firepit has seen better days Overall we really enjoyed our stay at hickory haven and would be glad to go back if/when we’re back in the area. It’s not luxurious but it’s not priced like it’s luxury either. Would recommend.

Nutmeg cabin Posted: Jun 5, 2024 Frank is amazing, there was bad storms in the area he called to make sure we was watching the weather, told us where to watch the best update on the weather and made arrangements for us to have a safe place to go in case of a tornado, the cabin was perfect for the wife and I so quite and peaceful we enjoyed staying there and when we go back we will stay there again.

Posted: Apr 12, 2024 Let me start off by saying that Frank was very kind and helpful. Thank you Frank! The Big Leaf cabin itself was very nice, with only one exception. The beds, or at least the one in the room adjacent to the back porch, seems very old and needs to be replaced. It sagged a ton when I slept on it with my partner and we are not heavy people. Other than that I was very happy with my stay there. Manager Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. I apologize for the bed, the mattress is only about a year old but looking at the bed frame, I found the center support had moved to the outside of the bed and was not supporting mattress.

Wolf Knob DGC at Hickory Cabins Posted: Jan 17, 2024 ⭐ 6 Stars ⭐ My experience here was INCREDIBLE !!! My son and I made a trip from Buffalo, and stayed in Nutmeg cabin on the DGC for 2 nights. It was such an amazing experience 💯 The cabin was super clean, heated, proper bathroom, kitchen area with stove and fridge, microwave, tv, wifi, AND A OUTDOOR HOT TUB !! It even had everything you need to cook a dinner 🍝 The disc golf course the cabin is on, Wolf Knob DGC, was one of the absolute best courses I've ever enjoyed ⛳ The elevation throws, the choice of different lines to take per hole, the wooded shaped shots left and right, the open shots at the end for power, were all perfect for us, we are not pros at disc golf..yet!! Lol.. The trails to pins were mint, and easy to find, the tee pads were proper, and awesome to use, the terrain was exactly what we love. Frank, was the BEST!! He is caring, friendly, courteous, punctual, and so helpful. WE WILL BE BACK SOON !! CANT WAIT !! Mammoth Caves down the road!! Top of the line memories.

Exactly what we needed Posted: May 27, 2023 While there is another cabin within view we didn't even notice. Both of the cabins have their outdoor spaces on the back so there is little chance of interacting and we never heard the other occupants. The hot tub was great, the area was very quiet, and the lack of cell reception was a plus. With the wi-fi we felt good about being reachable in case of an emergency, but weren't easily reachable for 'day to day' things. The cabin is also an easy drive to Mammoth Cave National Park as long as the Green River Ferry is running. It is about a 20 min drive to the Visitor Center.

No upstairs bathroom Posted: Oct 4, 2022 It was our fault for not checking the photos better before booking but there are no bedrooms on the main level and no bathrooms upstairs where the master bedroom is. So if steps are an issue for you like us then you would have to sleep on the pull out couch. Not a good choice for the elderly. Also the yard was over grown and needs mowing to feel safe to not step on a snake. It's a very nice and private home and the owners are very nice and I'm sure would have cut the grass had I asked. I just didn't feel that I should bother them with it. Manager Response: I am sorry that you had a problem with the placement of our bathrooms. The description does provide where the bathrooms are located and floor layouts are provided with the photos. I apologize for some of the grass being tall but we were in a drought and I was avoiding killing the grass.

Very nice! Posted: Sep 2, 2022 We had a great time at the cabin, it easily fit the 6 of us. Frank was very friendly and accommodating. The cabin is just a quick 15-20 drive (using the ferry) to Mammoth Caves visitor center. I was impressed at all the supplies at the cabin, plenty of cookware, blankets, etc. The only thing we had to bring ourselves was food and laundry detergent. I think the addition of a couple signs would have greatly improved our check in process though. The road to the check in area and the cabins could really use a sign marking that it is Hickory Cabins! There isn't a single bit of cell service out there, so you can't call to confirm you're in the right place. Additionally, on way back to the Hickory Haven cabin--there is a fork, a simple sign pointing to the left would have been helpful (the first time we drove it we ended up going straight and the road ends at private property). Overall, we had a great time, the price was very fair, and I would recommend it to others. Manager Response: Additional direction signs have been added. A sign identifying Hickory Cabins turning onto M Meredith road was omitted to help provide privacy for our guests. We do have Verison cell service, but being remote, other providers are spotty. Most cell phones will connect to our wifi and there is a phone in the cabin.

Mammoth Cave in Summer 2022 Posted: Jul 29, 2022 Had a girls weekend at Mammoth Cave. Stayed in this lovely cabin with a co-worker. We had a great stay! The cabin is 18 minutes from Mammoth Cave by Ferry. There are several local diners to eat in at or get to go. We took several hikes and had a really great time. I hope to return again in the fall for another weekend get-a-way.

My oldest two (ages 6 and 8) loved the loft beds. My boys especially loved looking for and catching the tree frogs in the evenings lol.

our Hickory Haven stay Posted: Jun 14, 2022 The cabin is nice - it had plenty of towels and toiletries. Check-in was a bit slow but we were told they were trying to get a new system set up. The owner was friendly and helpful. He opened up the not-yet-opened disc golf store on the property for us to shop. The disc golf course was still in progress but is a great course - we plan to visit again when it's fully completed. Our suggestions would be more seating in the living room and for it to be a bit more comfy. Loved the privacy and quiet setting.

Perfect little cabin! Posted: Apr 29, 2022 The Nutmeg cabin was absolutely perfect! Clean and stocked with everything you could need minus food. Frank was super helpful and friendly and told us to expect a visit from the local dog named Gunner and he finally showed up on our last night, which made us so happy! Hanging out on the back deck watching and listening to the wildlife, soaking in the hot tub, and starry nights made this spot a must return place for me and my sister. We were close to all kinds of things to do, we just didn't have enough time, but we won't make that mistake again. Thank you, Frank, for the hospitality and for an ideal place to stay!

It was great to get into the countryside, hike, explore Mammoth Caves, and visit area distilleries. Every evening we would come back and soak in the hot tub, as the perfect close to our day. The cabin had everything we needed for our stay and is situated directly in nature. It’s the perfect place for anyone who needs a break. You can choose as much peace and quiet or tourism as your heart desires. We would definitely return in the future.

I also appreciated the kitchen as one of my kids has food allergies and it is easier to cook for him rather than eating out. We had had a great time and I would recommend to friends.

Great Family Getaway Posted: Oct 17, 2021 We had an amazing time at Big Leaf. The cabin was just as described and very well kept up. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we could have needed (we ended up bringing a good deal of groceries and making our meals there). Our young boys loved the loft and took it over for the duration of the trip. It was the perfect trip in nature, with the comforts of home. Air conditioning, hot water, etc. all worked well for us. We enjoyed exploring the large property and hearing the acorns and hickory nuts fall with every breeze! The local hound dog who visited daily was also a favorite for our family! Ridiculously close to Mammoth Cave as well, which was our main reason for booking. Would rent this out again in a heartbeat. Thanks for the amazing memories!

The Nutmeg cabin was very clean and we enjoyed the hot-tub every evening after a long days of hiking and exploring. Just wish the Green River Ferry was open because we had a long drive to most of our destinations. We also liked the pizza from the Hickory Cabins Grill.

Nutmeg stay Posted: Oct 20, 2020 we recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary but cancelled vacation travel plans due to COVID-19. That cozy little cabin in the woods had everything we needed. We visited Mammoth Cave and some of the numerous nearby hiking trails during the day, enjoyed the secluded hot tub on the deck when we returned and ate s'mores by the fire pit under the stars in the evenings. it was great!!!

Beds could be more comfortable, but we have slept on worse. Overall, a good place to stay near Mammoth Cave. We think others will like it too.

Best Getaway Ever Posted: Mar 26, 2020 Great secluded little wooded spot, the creek was running and the birds were chirping and I sat outside and soaked it in. 18 hole disc golf was challenging and was a great walk. Great access to the national park. Our kids loved the loft. Fast internet access. We took a beautiful trail ride with local Double J . Built a fire, looked at some stars through our telescope. We are making this our place to stay.

Great time Posted: Mar 21, 2020 We booked last minute when our California trip was canceled due to Coronavirus. This was a lovely alternative. The cabin is relatively secluded which makes for a relaxing and peaceful time. The cabin is located just outside of Mammoth Cave and is easy to navigate to the park. Frank was just a phone call/text away if we had any questions or concerns. The cabin is big enough to accommodate a family getaway and has enough activities to keep all entertained. We will definitely book again in the future.

The check in and check out were smooth and easy. The location was fairly secluded, which is what we wanted. The hot tub was amazing. We made good use of the kitchen for most of our meals and appreciated the hot tub after hiking 8 miles at the park one day! We enjoyed hiking the area surrounding the cabin as well. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The only area needing improvement is the mattress on the main bed. Thanks!

The nutmeg cabin was the cherry on top of the sundae. It was super clean! It was the perfect size for the two of us! Frank was amazing at check in. He drove us to the cabin, told us places to eat, where to go, and made himself available any time we needed something. We felt like family there! EVWRYONE was super nice everywhere we went. Nice place! Posted: Aug 4, 2019 We recently spent 3 nights in Big Leaf cabin with our 10 year old grandson. The cabin was very nice and very clean. It backs up to a thick wooded area with a well kept open area in front. We enjoyed eating meals on the back deck. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need. There is also a grill and fire pit, which we did not use. The bathroom was roomy with a great shower. My grandson liked the loft. Our cabin stayed cool in the hot weather. Mammoth Cave visitors center is about 15 minutes away. We also enjoyed fishing at the nearby state park. I recommend buying groceries on the way to the cabin because there is not a grocery store close by. Our host, Frank, was very friendly and helpful. If we return to the area, we will definitely stay here again.

Perfect for a weekend getaway Posted: Aug 4, 2019 We really enjoyed our stay in the Nutmeg cabin. It was quiet, secluded and overall a relaxing place to stay for the weekend. There is a cabin 100 yards away, but we never heard or saw the other people staying there. The cabin was air conditioned which worked very well. Everything was clean and tidy. The staff was soo nice and helpful. We were about 25 minutes to Mammoth Cave if you take the Green River Ferry, which was free too. ! The hot tub and WiFi was an added bonus too! The only downside was the shower/bathroom was a little tiny.

They loved having their own space downstairs for sleep and entertainment. We also enjoyed walks on the property and exploring the area. I especially enjoyed relaxing on the front porch swing with my morning coffee.

Great Cabin Experience Posted: Jun 12, 2019 Our two grandsons ages 6 and 12 and ourselves had a great time in the cabin and surrounding area. The cabins met or exceeded all expectations. The boys especially liked the loft, outside fire pit and basically being in the woods for our 3 day stay. One measure of success is that the tv was never on during our whole stay. Great sightseeing at Manmouth Cave, Dinosaur World and Corvette National Museum.

Enjoyable stay at Hickory Haven Posted: Mar 20, 2019 The cabin was very clean and spacious. We staying in March, so it was quite cold out and it took the cabin a long time to warm up and was never quite warm enough. Besides that, we really enjoyed hiking, caving and hot tubbing. Would definitely stay there again in warmer weather.

The amenities were as promised (even when that meant that the owners had to empty, clean, and refill the hot tub just before we arrived). The cabin was comfortable and warm. The cabin is also located on a disc golf course (which will certainly take advantage of the next time we come to stay). With the government shutdown ending right as we arrived, we were also still able to visit the Mammoth Cave visitor center and go on a cave tour. (We highly recommend visiting the Park as well; great hiking trails, nice visitor center, and informative tours.) When not relaxing at the cabin, we spent our time hiking or visit the host family's restaurant (a small, very informal, diner-type). It was inexpensive and very family-friendly (although not necessarily healthy), and we got to know the host family. Overall, we had a WONDERFUL time and highly recommend Nutmeg or working with Hickory Cabins for your next getaway!

The cabin was small, but it was nice and clean. It was quiet and secluded, set back in the woods. We really enjoyed the hot tub and the star gazing on the back deck. The cabin was the perfect size for the two of us and we are planning to bring our friends and family next time to rent the cabin across the way for all of us to stay next time! We were in such a rush to leave right after the wedding that we didn’t get a chance to bring our own groceries or even thought to do so, so make sure to bring all of those things, because the nearest ANYthing (besides the gas station) is about 45 minutes away. But it was perfect for what we wanted. Went to the Crystal Onyx Cave, made dinner the second night, and the beds are perfectly comfy! Oh! And don’t be scared of the sudden loud thuds on the roof, those are just the acorns falling off the tree! And my husband says, don’t try to go to the Belly Bustin’ BBQ place, they are closed!! Otherwise, the cabin itself, no complaints at all! It was perfectly lovely! Would and will go again!!

Excellent Accommodations Posted: Jun 29, 2018 My wife and I and one daughter and her family stayed at Hickory Haven. The covered deck space is wonderful. The hot tub is great. High efficiency heat pumps on each level did a terrific job of cooling the cabin. My only complaint (and it is minor) is that the charcoal grill is rusted through and almost no cleaning supplies were available. We had a child get sick and had to go buy a bucket and other supplies to clean and sanitize the bathroom where he got sick. We used the grill by putting some aluminum foil on the bottom of the grill where it had rusted out. The location is superb - secluded but close to Mammoth Cave Visitor Center and Nowlin Lake. Frank and his son, Richard, are excellent in providing information and responding to any needs.

Posted: Jun 23, 2018 Needs more lighting in kitchen sink and counter area. Bath/ shower some bleach would go a long way towards helping the mildew/mold clean up. A small fan and an extention cord to help move cooler air up towards the loft. When showing the cabin turn on both T.V.'s, the t.v. in the bedroom had no signal, something was not working or plugged in? T.V. in living room area worked fine. Overall it was a very nice cabin and experience for the grand kids.

We were disappointed that the grass never got cut while we were there and the table on the outside porch was very dirty. I had to clean it myself so we could use it. Also it would have been nice to have a better idea of what was provided in the kitchen as far as dishes, silverware, serving ware and microwaveable bowls and plates because I would have brought more of those kind of things from home. Also, we ran out of toilet paper but I had brought extra. Overall it was a good experience.

Posted: May 29, 2018 I really enjoyed my stay at the Hickory Cabins. I like that it's very private and close to the Mammoth caves and the Nolin River Lake state park. We took the ferry across the river to get to the caves, which was unique. Happy that there was internet access and cable tv to watch while it was raining. I would definitely come again, but maybe stay in the larger cabin, so the grandkids have a little more room.

Cozy place Posted: May 26, 2018 The cabin was nice and cozy. It only has one bathroom but we made it work. It is in the woods with another cabin across the road. A few recommendations would be to add a hot tub like the other two cabins, put a mirror in the smaller bedroom and cover the back porch.

The only negative is that there is another cabin not far away from the front of the cabin, but the back is secluded with trees. Highly recommend.

A lovely little cabin Posted: Mar 10, 2018 This is a small, cozy cabin tucked away in a lovely wooded area. It's a perfect size for one or two adults and perhaps one child. The bed is against a wall on one side, so there's not a lot of space in the bedroom and getting in and out could be challenging for the person against the wall. The loft, in my opinion, is not adult-sized, so don't count on an adult to utilize that space. In spite of its small size, it has a full kitchen (mini fridge with freezer, microwave, stove and coffee pot). If you plan on cooking, be sure to bring whatever pots, dishes, etc. you need as it is sparsely stocked. There are a few little restaurants in the area and a pizza shop at the check-in office, so you do have options other than cooking. There are no regular grocery stores in the immediate area, so do that shopping in a more populated area prior to your arrival. The hot tub on the deck looked inviting, even though I didn't use it. It was very reasonably priced- a great value! I would stay here again

Only problem we had was one of the dish controlers were missing. You need to update you guide to eating places some of them are closed. I have suggestion of possible improvements: replace the tv stand on main level with a corner electric fire place with a place to put dvd, dish box and tv on top. replace sofa with new hide a bed broiler pan enclose the bunk bed/laundry area to make more privet just in case, as we did, there are all couples and not kids. We have been asked by friend, after the saw pic we took, where we stayed. I gave them your information. I want to thank you again for working with us so we didn't lose our deposit. A group of eight friends spent three nights in Hickory Haven and had the time of our lives. The cabin was amazing and perfectly set up for what we needed. Very clean and comfortable and we didn’t feel like we were tripping over each other all the time. It was well equipped with the basics including plenty of towels. Having a washer and dryer available was also a great bonus! The setting was so peaceful and private. With the group we had the economical side of the cabin plus food expenses made this a great deal besides everyone being all together instead of being in a hotel in separate rooms and eating out at restaurants all the time. The hot tub was also a nice treat after a long day of kayaking the Green River or walking through the caves. Fantastic Hideaway in KY Hills Posted: Nov 10, 2017 Our family of 4 stayed at Hickory Haven for 3 nights and it couldn't have been more comfortable. We had plenty of room to spread out and the kids loved having the lower level all to themselves. Check in was easy and we were given great recommendations for things to do and ways to get around. We were there in the fall so the ladybug beetles were out in full force. This was no fault of the cabin owners, but it did get buggy. Otherwise the cabin was very tidy and had all the comforts we could possibly need for our stay.

Nice private little cabin just big enough for the two us and close to Mammoth Cave National Park. Everything was so clean and neat. The hot tub was awesome at night after a long day of hiking in the caves. Richard and his dad were amazing at check in and showed us where the cabin was located and walked us around the cabin to make sure we knew where everything was and how to work everything. We will be back!

Richard was wonderful to get us all check in and show us the cabin. He even told us of a great hiking trail, the Cedar Sink. If we find ourselves heading back to Mammoth Cave, we'll sure be staying here again.

Eclipse and Mammoth Cave Trip Posted: Aug 28, 2017 We had a great time at the Big Leaf Cabin. They were very accommodating with us arriving a little late because of the extra heavy traffic after the Total Eclipse. The cabin was perfect. It was clean and comfortable. The shower felt so good after the long day we had. The AC was was working perfect to keep us cool because it was quite hot and humid. The kids had a great time sleeping in the loft. The big beds were not quite like home but that was not what I was expecting. I would go back.

The comfortable cabin was nicely secluded yet close to Mammoth Cave and a few larger towns. We went on cave tours, canoed the Green River, went through the Lost River Cave and even caught a movie.The owners were exceptionally helpful and kind. We would absolutely return for another trip.

An Absolutely Fantastic Getaway Posted: Jul 4, 2017 Everything about this cabin was fan-freakin-tastic!!! Upon entering, my was welcomed in a clean, well kept, amazing smelling cabin! Big Leaf is next to the smaller cabin, but there is enough distance to still feel secluded. We explored the surrounding wood, was a perfect distance from the ferry and national park...there is also a nifty little store a couple minutes away (w/o having to cross ferry) this was so perfect and enjoyable, I have no words but HIGHLY recommend. My family has decided this will be an annual trip. Loved It!

The cabin is very well laid out with interesting architecture and decks on each level. Frank and Richard were very helpful and accommodated our late arrival. Frank showed us the entire cabin upon arrival and made us feel very welcome. Our kids loved having their own bedroom level and enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking. It was a little tricky to figure out where to check in, but if we had more day light, it may have been better. The drive into the park was easy, and there was plenty of information about things to do in the area. Overall, great experience!

The 2 younger girls enjoyed the loft, while the older girl enjoyed having her own room with a queen size bed. The kitchen needs a little more light above the sink area as it seemed too dark when preparing food, especially in the evening. It was cool on our stay unfortunately, but that didn't affect our stay in the cabin. It was very clean and a pleasure to stay here.
