Not only are the rooms comfortable and furnished with every amenity, there is a large deck, a hot tub, a barbeque - what more could you ask for? The view, you say? This is the ONLY dwelling that looks right down on the Chilkoot River, where we watched bears fishing right in front of our eyes. It was an amazing experience that we will treasure all our lives.

Chilkoot Haven Great place, best in haines Posted: Jun 27, 2023 This cabin/room came with all the utensils you needed to cook your own meals on an outside high quality grill or use their microwave. Came with coffee maker and a bunch of teas. We did the fly fishing (w/fly guides) and caught our Dolly Vardons and ate them fresh afterward for two nights. Btw: if you like to cook or grill, we really enjoyed swapping restaurants for home cooked options, and cut our daily food bill down by 70%. This saving paid for our rental car, which is a must if you stay outside the town. We loved the hottub after fly fishing, and just enjoyed it after being on a ferry for 5 hours. We also slept great and enjoyed the resident eagles. No bears till the salmon really run in July. Didn’t matter

Chilkoot Haven Posted: Jun 23, 2023 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful facility. I can't say enough about the beautiful setting. The room was clean, pleasant and very quiet. I would highly recommend to anyone planning to stay in Haines. It is a few miles out but well worth the drive.

Posted: Jun 22, 2023 Sue, at Chilkoot Haven, is exceptionally experienced at providing an experience where nothing has escaped her attention. The beds are super comfy, the bathroom has everything a road traveler would want (in duplicate), there is coffee for a full pot, there’s a hot tub, a small kitchen and all of this overlooks the most beautiful and peaceful river you can imagine. I’m not sure about Sue’s prior life but today she is able to intuit what information you might want (in advance) and provide the type of platinum service that is rarely found. I am so grateful we found this sanctuary. I highly recommend it!!!

The unit contains all the essentials you need, and you also have access to a BBQ & hot tub. The pictures can’t do it justice - that view is breathtaking. The room is clean & well kept, and Sue is wonderful; friendly, kind, approachable, and knowledgeable. Randa is also highly responsive & helpful. Highly recommend - we didn’t want to leave!

It was definitely the highlight of our trip, blowing all of our excursions out of the water. The property is spectacular! Sue went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and Randa was very helpful in getting this setup and a great resource for Haines information. Thank you!!!

Chilkoot Haven: A true gem in the Alaskan wilderness. Posted: Sep 30, 2021 Arrived after dark so we couldn't see the surroundings or the sign up the driveway, but eventually found the lodge without too much trouble. Woke up to an incredible scene. Felt like we were in a National Geographic documentary. Wide river rapids with majestic mountains bordering the riverbanks. Noticed 4 or 5 bears in and out of the water and even some cubs playing around. An occasional bald eagle swept across in front of us and even some distant mountain goats on the slopes across from us. The road below was out of sight, so it felt like we were right on the river. The room was warm and inviting with some very nice quilts on each bed. Something that was in the website photos, but like the scenery, a subtle touch that you don't expect to impress you until you are there. Last, but not least, a special thanks to the owner, who was especially friendly with a warm and comforting personality.

Chilkoot Haven: Best Experience with a VRBO Ever Posted: Sep 15, 2021 This was an incredible experience watching bald eagles and bears fishing while sitting on the deck having a cup of coffee in the early morning or a glass of wine in the evening. Have never experienced a place situated so nicely for such an experience. 10 stars if we could give that! And... our host Erica was incredible!

Chilkoot Haven: top location Posted: Aug 20, 2019 Large room with all the facilities you need, very clean, good beds. Best location in Haines to see wildlife, but you need a car to reach the lodge. Due to the strike of the ferry they helped us driving to the ferry to jump on the last ferry. We could leave our rental car at their house for 14 days. We forgot some things in our room because we were in a hurry catching the ferry … they kept it for us until we came back. A big thank you !!!!

A little bit of heaven Posted: Aug 18, 2019 This was our third stay at Chilkoot Haven. It is in the perfect spot on a bluff above the Chilkoot River. The bedding was very comfortable and the shower excellent. The sheets, pillows and towels are a touch above the normal. From our room we were able to view a large area of the river. We were lucky enough to see eagles and bears during our five day stay. We also spent time fishing on the river and going into the town of Haines nearby. The whole area is quite and peaceful and very relaxing. We definitely will be returning.

We were there, my aunt and I for a 5 night stay to make sure we could see as many bears as possible.....and we did. We saw bear hunting fishes at the river, right across the place; Bald eagles flying and hunting for food. No word can describe the experience we got here and hosts are very nice and friendly.

Chilkoot Haven Paradise Posted: Jul 13, 2018 Staying at the Chilkoot Haven was the highlight of our vacation. It is located at the very best location possible on the Chilkoot River. We enjoyed sitting outside soaking in the amazing natural beauty, watching eagles fly overhead to their nests, listening to the peaceful sounds of the river and the eagles chattering. We watched fishermen in the river and kayaks on the lake just down the road. Sue was so nice and welcoming to us, we enjoyed spending some time asking her questions about the area. It felt as if we were visiting a friend. Room was clean and well appointed with many ammenities geared toward relaxing and an enjoyable stay. We loved it here and hope to return one day. There isn't a better place to stay on the Chilkoot River. Chilkoot Haven is the best. Thank you to our wonderful host, Sue.

Best stay of our Alaska vacation Posted: Nov 12, 2017 My husband and I loved our days at Chilkoot Haven. We were warmly welcomed by Erica. Each day we watched brown bears and eagles from our location above the Chilkoot River. We could hear the river flowing and the eagles cackling. It was amazing! We hope to return someday to this very special place, our favorite of this summer's Alaska vacation.

We arrived at night after the ferry ride from Skagway, so we didn't know about the incredible view until the next morning. Opened the curtains to see bears feeding along the river bank. Room was warm and well-furnished — the next day, we ordered the same set of pillows that were on our bed. Sue and Erika were very friendly and helpful, and Randa did a great job with the reservations. We will be back.

Chilkoot Haven: Loved loved loved this place! Posted: Sep 8, 2017 Chilkoot Haven is a tiny piece of heaven in this beautiful corner of Alaska. We were warmly greeted by Erica on our arrival. She proudly showed us the freshly painted rooms with cozy quilts on the beds, then walked us outdoors to showcase the incredible view to the river below. Our jaws nearly hit the floor. We were struck by the beauty of this place and the magic of watching the river rush by as fishermen waded through the water to catch their fish. Erica provided great advice about dealing with the 'friendly' brown bears in the area. We were fortunate to watch seven bears make their way up the river as they looked for fish to eat. She spent lots of time with our children watching the bears and chatting away. The rooms are cute and cozy, each with two Queen beds and a small kitchen area (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes). We also had access to the BBQ area, so we rushed back into town to grab some steaks in order to sit outdoors and watch the beauty of the bears and the river.

The television would not be required as far as I am concerned because looking out through the sliding window door for the wonderful view of the Chilkoot river is much more lovely, especially during bear season. The view from the cabins are beyond belief - you're high on a hill, and able to view the bears and fishermen. There's a private area to fish, which was great fun for my family. We will recommend this place to our friends and family, and we can't wait to come back! We got a chance to meet the owner who is a lovely woman, and got to know Ericka, a staffer who made our stay so fun. She even let me borrow her waiters so I could wade deeper in the river. We loved these cabins, the people, the wildlife .... can't say enough nice things :). We'll be back!

We sighted bears on the other side of the river immediately after checking in, and enjoyed watching the comings and goings of eagles from their nest in a nearby tree. We enjoyed the provided breakfast of coffee and a large muffin on the patio (we were in room #1) with a stunning backdrop of river and mountain. The only negative here is directed at ourselves - for booking just a lone night. We will be back.

Beautiful, peaceful river retreat Posted: Jun 16, 2017 I stayed at the Chilkoot Haven Lodge a few years ago and was so glad to come back. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, and very clean. The host was super helpful and the rooms had many nice touches including access to extras like a toaster oven & BBQ tools; kitchen items in the room like cups, bowls, and silverware; and several nice little things - plush towels, extra pillows, and good quality toilet paper. And then there were the big things - watching eagles and bears on the river from the porch, trying to identify all the wildflowers, and just enjoying the sound of the river. We fished for trout on the lake, chatted with the fish-counter on the weir, and introduced several family members to the lovely town of Haines & Sue's amazing little haven on the river. Thanks again for everything!

Posted: Oct 10, 2016 We enjoyed the most fabulous 4 comfortable nights staying in the most amazing setting nestled amongst the trees and overlooking the Chilkkoot River and weir watching the bald eagles swooping for salmon, fishermen casting for salmon and with bears "on tap" scooping up the salmon! The Haven was impressive, very comfortable and clean and many thanks to Sue our stay got even better when we were able to spend two nights in the residence! Thankyou for all you did to make our stay as good as it could get! We loved Haines and the friendliness of everyone! Thankyou!

Chilkoot Haven: Magnificent Haven Posted: Sep 15, 2016 Undoubtedly one of the highlights of our Alaskan adventure. We arrived after a fifteen minute drive from Haines to find the room ready and stepped out onto the deck. The Chilkoot River flowed below and in the distance we could see bears feeding on the spawning salmon. Over the next three days we drove and walked around in both sunlight and rain. But our base allowed us comfort and a place to observe the Bald Eagles and bears below. There is a great BBQ that we used on two nights with additional accessories in a room nearby. This is a beautiful, magical place to stay - the Chilkoot Lake is a five minute walk away and the river and mountains make it so special.

Great rooms, love that heated floor..the best spot for bear watching and for fishing and the outdoor cooking area is a real nice touch. Overall a 10 out of ten in my book. Have stayed other places in Haines and they don't come close to this.
