Nautical Nest description

Picture your first day on your Bailey Island vacation....... Sleep in and rise to the sound of sea gulls catching their breakfast as lobster boats head out of Mackerel Cove. Take your coffee and newspaper out to your Adirondack chair perched above your own pebble or sand beach 20 steps below. Thinking about your day, you walk down the rocks to the beach below. After skimming a few rocks, looking for sea glass and wading in the tidal pools, you decide on the perfect balance for the rest of the day. Maybe you will fish or swim from the dock or rent a kayak to explore the island. Perhaps you will relax and bring your new summer read and picnic lunch down to the beach at noon. In the afternoon you will take a walk over to the east side cliffs and the "Giant Stairs" formation and watch the crashing surf. After that you may bike to Orrs Island to look at gardens and get an ice cream. In the evening you will watch the spectacular sunset over Mt. Washington--75 miles to the west while sipping a favorite cocktail and taking pictures. Later you'll enjoy a candlelit dinner in your nautically decorated "Martha Stewart" style cottage or head to one of the four local island restaurants. As you lay your head down on your pillow your first night of vacation to the sounds and smells of the nearby ocean, you begin to dream about the rest of your week in this little spot of heaven. You ask yourself, "will I take a boat cruise with Casco Bay Lines from Cook's Lobster House or walk down to Land's End Gift Shop 1/3 of a mile away?? Shall I head to Brunswick to a fine restaurant and take in a musical at the Maine State Music Theater? Shall I shop at L.L.Bean and the outlets in Freeport if it rains? Shall we invite friends when we cook our complimentary lobsters or savor them all ourselves? As active or as quiet and relaxing as you want to be, you know your vacation on the coast of Maine will be special and memorable for years to come.

Great cottage, amazing view, loved the place and the island is unique cool spot. Management company was very helpful and aided in making the stay an overall terrific experience. Recommend this property to a couple or a couple with 1/2 small kids...Loved the loft space.
Very good

1) main bed simply must be on wheels to allow space for person next to the wall and to make the bed 2) folding door in bedroom needs 1/2" removed from bottom - otherwise cannot move, totally jammed on rug

The cottage is well outfitted for reasonable accommodation and comfort, but the double bed in the bedroom is not particularly comfortable and should be replaced with a newer and harder mattress. Our biggest complaint, of which you are aware, is the bi-fold door on the bedroom closet jumping the tracks

Loved it! Friendly folks at Island connection. Friendly owners. Nearby Botanical Gardens are a day's worth of entertainment. Lots of fishing and trails. Evenings right on the ocean's edge were fabulous. Very relaxing!
Great Stay

We very much enjoyed the cottage. It was very clean and attractive. A few things that were lacking for us were no covered or uncovered deck and only a limited yard space facing the water views and not perfect access to the water for our rental kayaks. Owner tried to accommodate us but the place just isn't well suited for water access unless you are okay trekking through their personal yard .. Which we realized after one day.. We weren't. Besides these points we would highly recommend the place.

This is an adorable cottage with amazing views out of every window. The décor is clean, fresh, and instantly makes you feel at home. The complimentary lobsters were delicious! The reasons this cottage does not score a 5: No option to change the Saturday to Saturday booking. We ended up paying for a day that we could not use. The loft area is fine for teens or adults. However, access to the loft would be extremely difficult, if not impossible for seniors. Sleeping in the loft would not be safe for young children. With that said, I would absolutely consider staying at Nautical Nest again. We have rented a vacation home through Your Island Connection several times. They are always easy to communicate with and "under promise and over deliver". We have NEVER been disappointed with an experience that we have booked through Your Island Connection. Nautical Nest was no exception, it exceeded all of our expectations.
Bailey Island Nest

We have stayed on Bailey Island several times, but this was our first at Nautical Nest. The location was ideal with beautiful views of Mackerel Cove. The lobsters delivered to the dock were welcome and made a delicious meal. The cottage itself was clean and well furnished. Our criticism is minor, but would have made the stay more enjoyable. The loft bedroom is rather difficult to use as the stairs are very steep; it made it somewhat dangerous to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. This should probably be made clear in the listing for the property. There was no ladle in the kitchen which made it a challenge to serve chowder. The icemaker in the refrigerator made very little ice, even after turning the temperature down. Providing a cooler for daytrips would have been nice. We have stayed at places which provide these and they really make things nice; having to buy a styrofoam cooler and then throw it away is pretty wasteful. All in all, an enjoyable stay.
